enseñar

This past week, I was able to visit the senior center here in Jinotepe, and I had the privilege of meeting a wonderful woman named Maria. My teammate Brittany and I talked with her quite a while, but since neither of our Spanish is particularly good, we weren’t able to follow all she said. One word on particular kept popping up in our conversation, the word enseñar and neither Brittany or I could figure out what Maria meant. Eventually she gave u trying to get us to understand, and just took us around the facility, showing us all the beautiful plant life on the grounds. After our...

Just call me Juan Messi

“Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you expected.” – Unknown Coming in, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. Interesting food, broken hearts mended, and a few laughs along the way, but this trip has been far more than that thus far. It’s now been a full week since I landed in Nicaragua, a country filled with needs beyond your wildest imagination. Next to Haiti, Nicaragua is 2nd in the “poorest countries” category in the Western Hemisphere. What amazes me is how little these people have that live in the barrios or neighborhood...

I am Free to Dance

Wreck my world were the three words that I prayed for coming into training camp. I continued to speak those words without full comprehension of the power they have and can bring when you ask God for that. It is such a blessing to serve a Lord who hears all our prayers, and although he doesn’t respond on my time, he knows the right words to say. The messages, worship, and community time is something that the Lord told me to engage in with complete freedom. I allowed him to answer my prayer, and turn my ear to heaven and hear the noise inside. Full sacrifice, although difficult at...

With All Creation I Sing

With All Creation I Sing                   Wednesday was our first church service. It was our very first day here and I was expecting a look around, get to know the place day, BUT it was church day. I was a little rattled/frayed because I wasn’t sure how I was going to fit in/how to get meet the people or what to say. As church started, they started singing songs that we knew. Of course it was in Spanish, but they were song I’d heard and grown up to. It was a little calming to be able to at least...

Training camp to Nicaragua

It felt like the last two days of camp (Sunday and Monday) really felt like they went by quickly, it felt like it was time for us to go.  We went to seminars for most of the day on Sunday.  We talked about ways to talk and share our testimonies and give a short sermon.  Then we talked about our countries and what will be some things to expect there.  That night we all got together to pray for each other.  It was a great experience.  Then on Monday we finished our paintings and had some time to journal and set up our...
