Wig Shopping in Nica

Wig Shopping in Nica We all like being the smiling volunteer handing the grungy homeless person a sandwich. We can bask in their smile and feel warm and fuzzy as we receive the gracious handshake in return. There is something gratifying about having your fingertips actually touch the person you are helping and see with your own two eyes their smiling face. But the reality is that that exchange would never have been possible without the people who donated the money for the bread, the people who donated their time to go out and buy the bread, the people who donated their time to make the...

Fun Tid-Bits from my time in Nica

My last few blogs were more on the serious side, but it hasn’t all been serious, I’ve had a lot of fun here too and have been able to have a lot of new experiences. So here’s a list of the highlights: (they’re in no particular order) 1. I drank coconut milk from one that was freshly hacked off with a machete.2. I’ve tried 3 fruits I never knew existed before, one of which I liked very much and reminded me of fruit leather. Also I’ve had oranges and mangos very not ripe-that’s how they like them here very tart and with some salt.3. I’ve eaten...

Perspective

When you travel, you see a lot of things, learn a lot of things, and meet a lot of people. This week we’re in Granada for debrief. It’s the biggest city for tourism in Nicaragua, so there’s tons of things to do and people from all over the world. It has been kind of weird just relaxing and rejuvenating, but it’s also been super good.     Today we went on a boat tour around a bunch of little islands on the lake just outside the city. On our way there, it was just our group and the tour guide when we picked up a man, and once we got...

What Jacq’s Bed Taught Me This Week

The Lord has done a lot to bless other people through us these past two months, from passing out breakfast to homeless people to wig shopping with one of our friends who recently had brain surgery. I expected that. I expected him to use us to bless other people because it’s a mission trip. That’s why I’m here. I also expected The Lord to bless me during this trip. I mean, our primary goal is to bless others, but that can’t come with out being blessed ourselves. What I expected to get out of this trip was maybe a little more joy than I usually have or an epiphany...

The Rich Man, the Gypsy, the Lifeguard & the Rebel

*** I still need $1000 to be fully funded for this trip, and only have four weeks left to raise the support. If you would like to help me cross the finish line you can support me here, on this site by clicking the support me” tab on the left****     The Rich Man         Walter was an Italian man in his late 50’s. He had just retired from his career of 25+ yeas as a pilot and was proud to share with us that he was only 38 countries away from having been to all 196. The team was impressed with Walters lifestyle, proceeding to ask him a series of...

It’s Not Easy

It’s not easy, so they say To leave your home and go away To a country you don’t know.   It’s not easy, it is true To speak to those who don’t know you And don’t know what you say.   It’s not easy, it’s no lie To pack it up and say good-bye To ones close to your heart.   It’s not easy, understand To go obey the Lord’s command And leave comfort behind.   But it’s worth it, here we know Nothing greater than to go And give God’s love away. X
