Casita

Over the few days that we’ve been here, I’ve been able to make friends with some Nicaraguans that work at a nearby store in Jinotepe.  After just a handful of times of visiting them at their store, they then invited us to their “casita” (little house) for dinner last night.  Ashley and Shelby and I walked to their store last night and then proceded to walk to their home so we could eat and hang out with them for a little while.  Their home was probably the size of  an average kitchen.  The mom, Socurro, told us that even though her home is small that it doesn’t matter because she has so much love to give and she loves us so much.  We conversed about the differences between America and Nicaragua, including what males were like, different kinds of work and food, and where priorities were placed.

Family is priority here.  I’ve noticed that we’re all so eager to become independent and separated from our parents for whatever reasons as soon as we can and I myself am guilty of this.  Community is a main focus.  You eat together, sleep together, work together, share everything, etc.  It makes you really close and it’s wonderful.  We exchanged addresses and birthdays with the family and told each other we would keep in touch.
There’s so much that I am learning and seeing it’s unbelievable.  One being do what you can, not what you can’t.  Another, talk to the person you pass by or the employee of the store you walk into.  They are a person too who God loves very much.
In Christ,
Katie
