Unveiling Darkness
After being in Nicaragua for about a week or more we weren’t seeing a lot of the darkness that we felt we were going to be encountering from training camp. I wear shoes all the time. I brush my teeth using a water bottle. I use the toilet with other people in the bathroom. My feet are always dirty – I’m not sure they will ever be clean again. I walk through mud on a daily basis. I’ve eaten enough rice and beans to last me a lifetime. I’m living out of a suitcase. My clothes don’t smell fresh. My showers are cold. I’m never by myself. Cleansing Rain!
I stood in the pouring Nicaraguan rain the other night with Sarah C. It was the most relaxing and freeing experience. It was spiritual and healing. I felt like the rain was washing me of all the unimportant things I dwell on back at home. I was just standing in the dark in the clean rain of nature. I’ve noticed that about this place though, I feel free of the constraints and rules of society. I have no cell phone, no T.V, very limited internet and I absolutely love it!
