Do you hear what I hear?

God showed up. God shows up.  God spoke. And God still speaks.    God spoke to our team as a whole and as individuals at training camp. Some of our team had never heard God’s voice before; whether that’s due to not ever having listened, or simply not knowing what God’s voice sounds like, people heard God’s voice. Because God showed up.   Because God shows up.   James 5:17-18 reads, “Elijah was a human just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he...

It’s a Hard Knock Life

Well, we made it to Nicaragua! Praise The Lord, am I right?! After four days of intense training we are here ready to serve God with everything we’ve got. While at training camp we had many sessions, some of them were informational like good tips for blogging (quite helpful) and cautionary tales about staying safe (also helpful). But more importantly we learned and were reminded that our identity is in Christ, that the Holy Spirit dwells inside us, that we must surrender everything to The Lord on a daily basis, and that hearing God’s voice is in fact possible and very...

What? Why? How?

What is so special about me? Why would God want me to go on this trip? How could I possibly help the people in Nicaragua? These are the questions that have plagued me for a long time. But that was before training camp. The first day there we were asked to write a list of what defines us and we had to figure out which attributes were the real us and which were masks we put on to hide the attributes we didn’t like. This is the first time anyone has asked me to do this, and frankly, the first time I really looked at who I am and who I pretend to be. I began to find things that I...

Arrival in Nicaragua!

Our Fall 2014 team has officially arrived in Nicaragua!  Their leaders called this morning (around 3:00am our time) and their travel from Atlanta was uneventful and smooth.  The team will spend the coming days getting introduced to their ministry, coming to know the culture, and finding a routine for the months ahead.   They will be getting internet within the week so that they can communicate home and share more about what their days and weeks will look like.  Until then, we wanted to let you know that all is well.  Hope that you’re as excited to follow along...

Wait! What about me?!

Ever feel left out? Yea, everyone has.Well on Thursday night, I felt left out. Not with my team, but with God…. The session we had on Thursday was about the Holy Spirit and different ways God talks to us. Near the end of the talk we had time to talk to God and ask for a vision. Though I didn’t have a vision I felt the presence of God with me. For the last part of  the Listening Prayer exercise we got into our full group. Half of the group stood with their eyes closed and the other half picked someone with their eyes closed to lay a hand on them. The person with their eyes...

Saying Goodbye

Though I ignored it, the moment has come. It is time to say goodbye. Time to halt this wonderful mix of good friends and good memories. Time to abruptly cut off what was abruptly started. It begins normally enough, if a little early. The usual morning greetings, teeth brushing, coffee. Then there are variations on the theme. Bags outside doors and the sounds of sweeping as we clean out our rooms for the last time. Instead of a line to get a plate, breakfast begins with a line to hug the cooks, and hear the tears begin to fall. Breakfast ends and the children hugging begins. The terrible...
