We are All Onions!!

We are in Nicaragua!! Last night, we arrived at about 2 AM so we couldn't see what we were getting into. From the airport though, we were picked up sand we rode in the back of a truck for 3 hours. That was our first chance to get to interact with any Nicaraguans. We all, being the experts that we are, decided to strike up conversation. One of my teammates was trying to remember words that she knew and onion was one of them. She tried to tell the people that we all like onions. However, it translated as we are all onions! That was when we all became a little humble and realized we...

“When God Speaks, Life Happens!”

Training Camp… learning how to build a house… use power tools… meet my team who might think I am completely strange (which would be legitimate)…learn more about Jesus… make new friends? No! Training camp has been so much more than what I could have ever expected! Jesus has met me exactly where I am but refused to leave me there, Praise HIM! My team? Well, let's just say they were a blessing from God for sure, I couldn't of picked more joyful loving people who at the same time aren't afraid to act like complete idiots 🙂 God has shown up at...

Out of Africa

Returning home after 3 ½ months in Kenya, I had exactly one month before leaving again for this trip to Nicaragua. One month isn't much time when it means transitioning back into American life after being immersed into African culture. But the hardest part of coming out of Africa was leaving the 12 people on my team who had become my family and the people who know me best. And truthfully, I never left Africa. Coming into training camp, I knew I would have to surrender my Team Kenya to God. If I was to have deep, intimate relationships with my new team, I would have to resist...

I give up…

for Jesus! phew. probably worried ya'll at first ( I have some southern friends that say ya'll a lot so it's just kind of my new word of choice…I don't actually say it out loud though, yet). But, just to clear the air I'm still going on this mission trip. Let's be honest, training camp has been pretty intense. And exhausting. And challenging. But, in really awesome ways. I guess I didn't expect to experience any of that until I actually got to the field…but thank the Lord I did. The days are running together already, but we had this great...

by faith, not sight: heading south for the winter!

The morning I left home (Friday), I wrote this in my journal: “I feel blind. I have no expectations of camp or Nicaragua. ‘For we walk by Faith and not by sight’. Thank you!” God was making me live this way when all along we are called to live this way. And oh my goodness has He shown me His faithfulness in so many ways just within the past 48 hours. My team and I are growing so close even though we’ve known each other for such a short amount of time. I have no doubt that each one of us are supposed to be here and be together in this journey. We will be each...
