In Your Arms of Love

It’s been a week since we left for Nica.  It feels like so much longer–the unknown has already become so familiar.  I think I’m falling in love with this place.  Arriving at my new home! After the bus ride to the town of Altagracia on the island of Ometepe, we all had super low expectations….we passed muddy yards enclosed by broken wire and stick fences surrounding wood and concrete shacks. But the hearts of many of the people here are full of gold and their faith shines brighter than their circumstances. The Rhythm of Things: In...

Oh the breathtaking sights we see…

¡Hola mis amigos!       How is everyone doing? My trip has been absolutely impeccable thus far. I almost feel as though God has blessed our trip and living conditions above and beyond what I feel we should have in a nation as poor as this, but before I get too far ahead of myself, I should probably start from leaving training camp.       So, on 05, June 2012, our Nicaragua team left training camp at 0900 Eastern Standard Time. We drove to the airport and waited for what seemed like days to board our flight for Nicaragua. ...

Island Life

Humbling Ourselves Upon arrival to our new home in Altagracia (Hotel Central), we humbled ourselves. The city itself is absolutely beautiful, filled with amazing people, and (at least it seems) incredibly safe.) Full expectations of taking bucket showers, sleeping on the ground, and essentially ‘roughing it’ for a month were swept away in an instant. We have rooms with beds, showers, and our sheets/towels are changed out daily. In addition to the spoiled lifestyle, we are overindulging in this Nicaraguan food. The hotel cooks for us for breakfast and dinner providing...

There’s no place I’d rather be.

Oh boy! So we have been on the island of Ometepe for about 5 days now. It's absolutely breath taking here. The people, the buildings, the trees, the random animals roaming the streets… it's all so new and so beautiful. I honestly don't even know where to begin. God is doing incredible things here. Our hotel is gorgeous, and the people who work here are magnificent. The food is delicious! Lots of rice and platanos! Me gusta mucho 🙂 We have been teaming up with the pastor of a local church, called Camino de Santidad, to reach out to the community. We have been going door...

YOLO.

You only live once, might as well do some crazy things, like watch chicken get killed, see a bird come out of a snakes mouth (it was pretty much throwing it up), or go to Nicaragua for two months with people you don't know who will become like your family.  We’ve been in Nicaragua for four days, and I already feel like I’ve been year for so much longer. We are staying in Sicrin Orphanage (it’s a super legit orphanage that strives to share God’s love with the children living there). We are super crazy blessed with our living situations.. we got fans and...

The Life of a Cereal Killer

Today, I taught eight children the dance to a Katy Perry song; life is wonderful.  This past week has been one of the best of my life.  During the four days of training camp, God truly broke down the barriers of my heart and allowed me to purify my motives for coming on this trip.  With incredible worship, life-changing teaching sessions, and irreplaceable team activities, God completely re-defined my life.         Our two traveling days on Tuesday and Wednesday were smoother than molasses excluding the time our bus...
