Crowded Buses.

Crowded Buses: So the other day, we started this thing as a team where one or two afternoons a week, we have a team of “open worship” where a teammate leads us in a different way of worship.  Wednesday, Sister Sam was up and we did this thing called “Practicing Personal Parables.”   Basically, she handed each of us a piece of paper with a scenario written on it that applies to life here-like mangos falling out of the tree or the multitude of gnats that showed up last week. We then had 30-ish minutes to come up with a way that we see God in that...

Missions on the Move

Hey all!  Sorry for the long pause in blogging, but traveling certainly makes typing difficult. Long story short, we left the Island of Ometepe after 2 INCREDIBLE weeks of ministering and sharing God’s love. We had some difficulties with the church that we were partnering with.  The pastor was teaching a gospel message that: we are saved by grace, but our Christian walk is characterized by works, and if we sin, we lose our salvation and need to be saved again (become a Christian again).  The pastor and other church leaders kept stressing that we need to strive...

Nicaragua: Expeditions Style

I am clearly the worst blogger ever. A month in and I haven't written anything. My reasons are kind of good though. We have been traveling A LOT. We started our journey on Ometepe, moved to Granada, and then moved to Managua. We will be here in Managua for the rest of our journey and I'm really excited. This short little blog post is just about the peace and joy that I have felt on this trip in situations where I could have been freaking out. So here it goes! I felt at peace going to a random person's house and sharing God's love with them. I felt at peace in a prison...

Where in the World…

When I was younger, I was obsessed with the computer game Carmen San Diego. She traveled all over the world and no one could ever find her! (Until you beat the game and found all the gold treasure, but that is beside the point.) As our trip has progressed these last two weeks, I like to think I am channeling Carmen as I have been in three different cities in the last fourteen days. Thus, I am not in Ometepe anymore. Carmen San Diego’s slogan was, “Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?” Fittingly, I guess you could ask, “Where is the Nicaragua is Katy...

Twelve dollar jar of peanut butter? Check.

So far I've done many things that I'd never thought I'd do before. One of those is buy a twelve dollar jar of peanut butter. It was the best thing I've ever purchased, just saying. We're entering our fourth week being gone, and I can't believe time is moving as fast as it is. It's really weird to think that we have less than two weeks at the orphanage. One of the little girls is in the process of getting adopted, and so her future parents have been at the orphanage spending time with her. As excited as I am for her, it is so hard to watch the other children who...

Si Senor, Si Si Senor…

This week was another week full of work, personal time with Jesus, group bonding, and TONS more painting for the roof of the house that a group of Costa Rican men are putting on the house that is being built.   Climactic events this week included:   1)      One of the precious boys here was kind enough to throw a stick at a wasps nest encouraging over 25 wasps to chase me. Thankfully I was only stung by one; but my ear swelled up like crazy! First sting: CHECK 2)      As to be expected there are an unlimited amount...
