God of all da people

Well…..here we are on the lovely island of omtepe, and let me tell you, the Lord's favor has been with us. He has blessed us tremendously with safe travel, comfortable living arrangements, wonderful people, and good food. 🙂       One thing that I have found to be pretty extraordinary since i have been here is the ability to communicate with others even without words. I have made friends with many of the kids here, and my bud, Connie, and I do not even have to use words to laugh at each other and know what is going on. It is funny...

Island Life

A glance from the outside in at our team may make our life here in Ometepe Nicaragua seem like a page torn straight from a storybook. We live on a tropical island with a majestic smoking volcano in our backyard, as well as a grassy beach and calm clear waters. There are farm and wild animals (cows, horses, chickens, pigs, goats, dogs, etc.) that scavenge and flock around us close enough to touch daily. We wade out in the water to hand wash our cloths. Nature is living and breathing in unity around us (one peek at the ground and you’re watching “a bug’s life”), and...

No Day But Today

"Jesus is most interested in our today." Last week, I was in Georgia at training camp, preparing to spend the next two months in Ometepe Island, Nicaragua. I was unsure how helpful this training would be and was anxious to get to Nicaragua and jump right in. Now at the end of it, if I would have just come to training camp and then came home, I would´ve come back with a changed heart more on fire for Jesus.  I realized expectations and things on my heart that I needed to let go of and give up to God. Our team got to bond and connect in a way that without camp, I...

Our way of life.

Hello friends and family! I am Kayla Dawnn, one of the team leaders for this summers Passport trip. We have safely made it to Ometepe Island in Nicaragua and we are LOVING IT! We arrived yesterday just in time to celebrate Kid's Day with all of the children. We had a party for all the kids with dancing, skits, gifts, and a pinata. The girls have jumped right in doing ministry at CICRIN, the orphanage we live at. A few of the the things we are going to be doing these next two months are helping at the school, kitchen, cleaning up around the grounds, and gardening. CICRIN is almost a...

One Month Ago Today…. and my life hasn’t been the same since!

As my title suggests, I arrived back from my summer in Nicaragua exactly one month ago today. Little did I know, the minute I stepped into KC off the plane my relationships with the ones I loved most would forever change. Because I had changed. I had changed because of Jesus. Jesus Christ, the Savior of my life, took ahold of every piece of me- even the things I had been holding onto for so long that I wasn’t willing to give up. I have been reading my journals recently and here were a few highlights and life changes the Lord showed me I needed to adjust in obedience to Him. 1....

Between Two Worlds

As I walked down the gateway into the Atlanta airport, I felt bewildered as I looked down the long corridor of glass windows and out at the countless shining cars racing up and down the twisted highways, zipping away toward the skyscrapers.  A thin sheet of glass was all that stood between me and what was supposed to be my “reality”.  But I knew this wasn’t so.  This was not where I belonged.  Yet when I said adiós to all my little brothers and sisters, my friends and my “family” in Nicaragua, I was ready to go...
