Hacer Estrellas

Today was a day like many other…I spent some time in a handstand. My friend Anna told the girls we were playing with, ¨Mira, mira¨(look, look) so I could do handstands for them. The fun began when one of the girls started ¨hacer estrellas¨(doing cartwheels). We were able to do handstands together and have joy in the universal desire to have fun upside down.   Another great moment was being joined by two young boys on my hammock. They just jumped on, so I brought out my Spanish Bible for kids. One of the boys was old enough to read to me, and I asked the other to...

He is faithful.

So, I could go into details about a lot of things. The gnats that attacked us. How precious the children are. How beautiful the view is. But I just want to write about how faithful our Lord is. At training, we went into our last night of worship. To put it simply, I was just burdened. I felt attacked and as if the devil was wanting me to experience all the hardships that have happened recently in one night. I was in tears and not in the mood to worship. I went off to the side and just sat on the floor of the chapel. I tried worshipping, but I could barely get words out. I just felt so heavy...

Waiting on the World to Change

We’ve arrived! It took a while, but we finally made it to Ometepe, Nicaragua. In the last few days I’ve taken planes, boats, and buses (vans) crammed with more people than can possibly be safe, but we managed to get here relatively unscathed. A few belongings got soaked in the process (they tied our bags to the top of the van in a rain shower), but all’s well that dries well. Travel Day One was mostly relegated to sitting in the airport. We left Toccoa Falls College at 7:00am to make the 2 ½ hour journey to the Atlanta Airport, arriving around 9:30am. Which would...

Our way of life.

Hello friends and family! I am Kayla Dawnn, one of the team leaders for this summers Passport trip. We have safely made it to Ometepe Island in Nicaragua and we are LOVING IT! We arrived yesterday just in time to celebrate Kid's Day with all of the children. We had a party for all the kids with dancing, skits, gifts, and a pinata. The girls have jumped right in doing ministry at CICRIN, the orphanage we live at. A few of the the things we are going to be doing these next two months are helping at the school, kitchen, cleaning up around the grounds, and gardening. CICRIN is almost a...

One Month Ago Today…. and my life hasn’t been the same since!

As my title suggests, I arrived back from my summer in Nicaragua exactly one month ago today. Little did I know, the minute I stepped into KC off the plane my relationships with the ones I loved most would forever change. Because I had changed. I had changed because of Jesus. Jesus Christ, the Savior of my life, took ahold of every piece of me- even the things I had been holding onto for so long that I wasn’t willing to give up. I have been reading my journals recently and here were a few highlights and life changes the Lord showed me I needed to adjust in obedience to Him. 1....

Between Two Worlds

As I walked down the gateway into the Atlanta airport, I felt bewildered as I looked down the long corridor of glass windows and out at the countless shining cars racing up and down the twisted highways, zipping away toward the skyscrapers.  A thin sheet of glass was all that stood between me and what was supposed to be my “reality”.  But I knew this wasn’t so.  This was not where I belonged.  Yet when I said adiós to all my little brothers and sisters, my friends and my “family” in Nicaragua, I was ready to go...
