A Guarded Heart

¨A heart. A guarded heart.¨ Those were the first words that Alyssa spoke in the listening prayer. This prayer is special in that the speaker had no idea who they were praying for and it was so early in our training camp sessions that none of us got to know each other on a deep level quite yet. In order to do this prayer there needs to be two circles. The inside circle closes their eyes and must listen to whatever God is telling them. The outer circle moves around and finds a person to put their hands on. I think this moment will forever change my life. For years, I have put up a...

A Journey Just Begun

Hola amigos y familia! It has been a fantastic 3 days so far at the orphange, I originally left for Atlanta, GA on May 31st for 4 days of training camp, and left June 4th for Nicaragua. We arrived at the orphanage; Cicrin; on the 5th. Thursday was our first full day of ministry and we were each assigned different places that they needed help at. I was assigned to work in the garden which I was beyond excited for. At Cicrin they grow squash, corn, tomatoes, pineapple, chillies, and cucumbers and also raise their own chickens and a mix between a sheep and a goat.   Our job that day was...

Keeping Your Eyes Open

Hello everyone! I'd like to tell you about Dunia.  Dunia is a little girl I have met here that has stolen my heart. She is one of the youngest girls here and she is sassy!  Matter a beautiful ferry ride across the lake, and a very "buggy" bus ride we arrived and were greeted by lots of hugs from the kids! We made it time for a fiesta they were having to celebrate "The week of the Child." The fiesta is where I met Dunia. At first it was just looks across the dance floor during the folk dances, but then she came over after the piñata was broken and...

God of all da people

Well…..here we are on the lovely island of omtepe, and let me tell you, the Lord's favor has been with us. He has blessed us tremendously with safe travel, comfortable living arrangements, wonderful people, and good food. 🙂       One thing that I have found to be pretty extraordinary since i have been here is the ability to communicate with others even without words. I have made friends with many of the kids here, and my bud, Connie, and I do not even have to use words to laugh at each other and know what is going on. It is funny...

Life so far…

I can´t believe I am finally here! Nicaragua is even more beautiful than I imagined. Once the bus picked us up from the boat, I started to get very nervous and questioning how I was going to handle all of this. Once we pulled up to Cicrin, all the kids were standing outside waiting to hug us. That´s when I realized everything was going to be OK and I was in the right the place. I feel so blessed to get to spend everyday with these kids who are so filled with joy and happiness. The view of Lake Nicaragua isn´t so bad either. We even washed our clothes in the lake yesterday...

Hacer Estrellas

Today was a day like many other…I spent some time in a handstand. My friend Anna told the girls we were playing with, ¨Mira, mira¨(look, look) so I could do handstands for them. The fun began when one of the girls started ¨hacer estrellas¨(doing cartwheels). We were able to do handstands together and have joy in the universal desire to have fun upside down.   Another great moment was being joined by two young boys on my hammock. They just jumped on, so I brought out my Spanish Bible for kids. One of the boys was old enough to read to me, and I asked the other to...
