Reasons to Rejoice

As my friends and family know, I have spent the week hospitalized due to an intestinal infection and parasite. Despite my sickness, God provided for me SO much this week, and for that, I rejoice and am healed in Him.  1. Prayerful People: My parents, friends and family's concern and prayers for me during this time allowed to see just how much they care for me, and I can never be grateful enough. People I barely even know we're asking how I was doing, and for that, I am extremely blessed.  While Dad calling the US Embassy in Managua may be too much, it does make...

Not so American

This past week, I spent the week in Rivas with 8 other of the girls. While we were there we helped out with a church in San Jorge. The people were so welcoming to us and treated us like friends immediately. In order to get to this church, we walked about a mile. This was down a few different dirt roads and back near the woods. When we got to the church, it was at a home of one of the members. It was all outside and the only equipment they had was a speaker to use for worship. There was no screen with the song lyrics on it, the people knew all the words by heart. Luckily, they LOVE Hillsong...

God Knows Best

About two weeks ago, my team was informed that we would be packing up, splitting in two, and leaving our new home. Just when we had gotten settled, the plans were shifting. I found out that my little half-team would be leaving the island of Ometepe and heading back to the mainland of Nicaragua to go to a town called Rivas. We would be spending the week at the house of a local pastor, a woman named Sarah who also works at Cicrin. Not going to lie, I was a little worried about how nine girls would be fitting into a house that is normally home to one, but when we got there all my fears were...

Losing My Heart to Balgüe

Wow, is it possible a week has already passed since we first arrived in Balgüe? And what a week it has been. Last Saturday, we packed up all our stuff and left Cicrin and all our sweet kiddos for a week. Leaving their precious faces was not easy, but knowing we'd be back before too long made the parting somewhat easier. I've grown quite attached to my life there.  After our goodbyes and hugs, we started down the road for a brand new adventure of ministering in Balgüe. Balgüe is a little town at the base of one of the volcanoes here on Ometepe. It is a beautiful...

Nuestra Familia

Our travels have brought us to the other side of the island to the town of Balgue, the poorest town on the island. We anticipated less ideal conditions, but we have been very blessed. Living with your momma pig and piglets in your yard seems very normal to us now. We never tire of looking at the baby piglets either. After being here for only 24 hours the church members felt like family. It is amazing how welcoming they are of these 10 American girls. We are the first missionary team to stay here, and are honored to be here. One of the cooks already wrote us a caring note in...

Let Your Little Light Shine

""Scientists say that these things evolved this way over millions of years." He shook his head. "That's a bunch of bunk. I don't think an animal can just all-of-a-sudden decide it wants to make light grow out it's butt. What kind of nonsense is that? Animals don't make light." He pointed to the stars. "God does that. I don't know why or how, but I'm pretty sure it's not chance. It's not some haphazard thing he does in his spare time." He looked at me, and his expression changed from one of wonder to seriousness, to absolute...
