The homeless in downtown Atlanta

First night of training we were sent into the streets of downtown Atlanta with nothing but $1 and instructed to evangelize to the homeless. This was an incredibly humbling experience for me. Other than the one dollar, I had nothing to offer the homeless except my words and love, which turned out to be a powerful gift. I talked with and prayed over three different homeless men. It amazed me how THEY were quoting Scripture to ME! I was also amazed how they just want someone to talk to them, listen to them, and just treat them like human beings. I walked away from that experience with...

Sherman

Our first night of training we were given $1 each and challenged to go out into the streets of Atlanta and allow the spirit to lead us to specific people who really need to be loved and listened to. After much prayer and slight hesitation Jenny, Katie and I were being drawn to a homeless man laying on some stairs of a near by building. As we walked up and started talking to him it became very apparent that he was most likely strung out on some kind of drug. His name is Sherman and the spirit just allowed our attempts to talk to him go smoothly and after 10 minutes he was telling us his...

Ruben

Trainings been sweet! My team is super legit and I’m stoaked to go to Nicaragua tomorrow morning! The first night we stayed in Atlanta and roamed downtown with instructions to distribute a dollar, start convos, pray for people, and other randomness. It was sweet, we got into some cool convos and Hannah and I met this guy named Ruben. Turns out his wife was in the hospital having their 7th kid which is stinkin ridiculous; as we talked to him it was soooo apparent that he loved his kids a ton. We prayed with him about his family and his wife, and it was really encouraging. He told us...

Lesson #1: eat to live, not live to eat

Food. Oh how I’m realizing how much I idolize food and let it be a distraction in my life. While spending the last few days in Atlanta and Gainsville, we haven’t been spoiled with a ton to eat. Our portions are limited and consist of food from around the world. This is a good thing since we will be eating like this for the next 2 months, but it has been a challenge to make the adjustment. Because of this, God has really been opening my eyes and showing me how I put that before most things, specifically him. Usually at home, I’m constantly thinking about what I’m...

Where do I even begin?  I feel like I’ve learned so much all ready and we’re only still at training camp.  First I’ve learned that I should have brought my headlamp, ThermaRest, and more gum.  Just kidding.  But really.  Ha.     On the real, I have enjoyed getting to know my teammates immensely, of what has come about from these first few days.  Everyone has a story to share, a gift to contribute, and a voice to be heard.  I’ve never felt so comfortable with my faith in this group setting and I barely know these...
