Arrival in Nicaragua

Our summer 2014 team has officially arrived in Nicaragua!  Their leaders called this afternoon and their travel from Atlanta was uneventful and smooth.  The team will spend the coming days getting introduced to their ministry, coming to know the culture, and finding a routine for the summer ahead.   They will be getting internet in the next couple of days so that they can communicate home and share more about what their days and weeks will look like.  Until then, we wanted to let you know that all is well.  Hope that you’re as excited to follow along with...

The Other Side of the Wardrobe

My very favorite stories of all time is “The Chronicles of Narnia”. My parents introduced me to them when I was six, and I am pretty sure they regretted it several times over with how much I’ve watched the movies, read the books, and quoted the works. They are beautiful stories full of adventure, forgiveness, and redemption. The lion Aslan is perhaps the greatest character of English literature (in my opinion at least), and the works themselves have been regarded as some of the greatest English classics.      As with any other story, I get...

Here’s the Breakdown: We don’t know God.

*** In order to be fully funded, I need to raise $450 in 12 days! Help me by supporting at the link on the left, “Support me”, or by sharing my blog with friends looking to help or tithe. Thank you! ***   “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” -John 4:8           We, Christians or not, do not know God. Because if we did really know God, we would desire nothing more then God himself. We say that “God is love,” but we don’t act like He is. We continuously seek love from anything other than the...

Little Mission Trip Things

When you’re on a mission trip in Nicaragua, these are some of the little things that happen: You try to remember the last time you showered…and can’t.  Your water bottle smells terrible but you drink from it anyway.  If you haven’t worn it at least 5 times, it’s clean.  A deck of cards provides hours of entertainment.  When you wash your clothes they don’t become clean, they just become less dirty.  Getting dressed up means a t-shirt, maxi skirt, and chacos.  Your group can rock “How Great is Our God” because you...

Heaven’s Heart

This heart doth yearn For what’s up high For something more That’s in the sky.   Upon this earth I don’t belong I yearn for more This feeling’s strong.   I don’t belong Upon this earth For I have now A second birth.   And from this birth My Spirit’s free But my bodies’ trapped I’m stuck in me.   I can’t escape This earth I tread My freedom comes When I am dead.   Until that day I watch and wait When heaven Opens up the gate.   This body here Is slowly dying It’s full of pain And hurt and crying....

Little Chick

There is lots of things to love about Nicaragua. The food, the people, the culture; the very air is teeming with life. I could go on and on for days on how much I love this country and how much I have learned.    I have been waiting for the Lord to give me a really cool inspiration for a blog. And while many very interesting and great things have happened, none of them have really inspired a written account. That is, of course, until today.     Today we went to Bethel, which is the village we go to most often. When we go there, we play with the kids...
