Wig Shopping in Nica

Wig Shopping in Nica We all like being the smiling volunteer handing the grungy homeless person a sandwich. We can bask in their smile and feel warm and fuzzy as we receive the gracious handshake in return. There is something gratifying about having your fingertips actually touch the person you are helping and see with your own two eyes their smiling face. But the reality is that that exchange would never have been possible without the people who donated the money for the bread, the people who donated their time to go out and buy the bread, the people who donated their time to make the sandwich,...

Sweeping Surrender

Have you ever tried sweeping your yard with a broom? My guess is that you probably haven’t. Well, here in Nicaragua, they use brooms. And let me tell you what, after a few minutes the process becomes a tedious, aggravating chore. One day in particular, my team and I were scheduled to be doing ministry with a pastor for his church. When we arrived at our destination, it was already well over 100 degrees out. The pastor took us to his church so we could prepare the grounds for the service. Some of the team was on “rock duty” and collected every rock in the entire landscape surrounding...

Bittersweet

(I wrote this blog last week but didn’t have a chance to post it , so if the time line seems off that’s why) 🙁 )My first two weeks in Nica have been wonderful; but also bittersweet. The finate number of days we all have on this earth is much more evident here and seems to be a lesson God is really trying to instill in me recently. The Sunday church sermon was on how life is short focusing on Job 4:1-2 “ Man who is born of a woman is few of days and full of trouble. He comes out like a flower and withers; he flees like a shadow and continues not.” Its a lesson I of course...

Come As You Are

Once upon a time, I fell.      I fell HARD.      I woke up in the middle of the night and started questioning EVERYTHING that I believed in. Asking if God was real, if He loved me, if He did move, everything I had always believed was true. It all came out of nowhere, and my normal state of mind(unquiet, eternally swimming with different thoughts and feelings) suddenly went blank. I think that was the scariest part of all.      I didn’t know what to do. I felt so, so down on myself for doubting, thinking I was an awful person and...

Love Language!

The Lord has such a unique way of expressing His love! When I found out I was going to Nicaragua, I began to pray that The Lord would bring back to my memory all the knowledge I had in speaking Spanish. I reviewed a little here and there but for the most part reste my confidence in Him – that He would bring it back to me at the appropriate time. What I needed to be reminded of was that my idea of the appropriate time is different from that of His. As soon as the plane landed in Nicaragua, I assumed my memory of the of Spanish language would return promptly. I’ll go ahead and get...

Truth

God loves me and is for me. His love is not based off of being perfect and doing the right thing. His love is unconditional. I am a dearly loved and gifted daughter of God, who is going to do amazing things for Him. He has created me to proclaim His name in my own special way, and He has some crazy plans for me. I am not ill equipped. Where I lack, the Holy Spirit makes up for it. The LORD GOD, the one who made me and knows me better than I know myself, will show me where to go. He will make it clear, and make it so I can follow Him. I AM going somewhere! God does not want me...
