Blank stares and productivity?

We started street ministry this week. We went into a barrio and performed. Before each performance we had to go and invite people to watch and participate in our program. At first it was hard for me to walk up to people’s houses and invite them in Spanish, but it started to get better after I had to do it again and again. In the beginning I was concerned about the effectiveness of our ministry. At training camp we talked about first building a relationship with people and then telling them about God. This project of our church here, Missión 70, did the opposite. We went...

enseñar

This past week, I was able to visit the senior center here in Jinotepe, and I had the privilege of meeting a wonderful woman named Maria. My teammate Brittany and I talked with her quite a while, but since neither of our Spanish is particularly good, we weren’t able to follow all she said. One word on particular kept popping up in our conversation, the word enseñar and neither Brittany or I could figure out what Maria meant. Eventually she gave u trying to get us to understand, and just took us around the facility, showing us all the beautiful plant life on the grounds. After our...

Dios Esta Con Usted

We went into the barrios for the second time yesterday. We visited many homes and prayed over many people, but one family in particular stands out in my mind. We were invited by a woman into her home to pray, and our group stepped into a one room house, no bigger than my living room. I counted nine people inside, including a couple of young children, and for these nine people were two beds, two chairs, and a small fire in the corner of the room holding a medium sized pot of simmering soup. Sitting on one if the beds was a baby, probably about 18 months old, and the woman told us that...

I am in Nicaragua! I have also found out what I will actually be doing for the next month or so. We are learning 13 songs, 3 funny skits, and 4 serious skits. We are then going out in the streets and performing them. Afterwards we are praying and talking to people and trying to bring them to Christ. If people are interested in going to church and learning about God, we take down their names. Then we start visiting their houses and discipling them. This goes on during Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Saturday is our free day. On Sunday, we are in charge of Sunday school from 9:00 to...

Training time

These past four days at camp have been amazing.  It is amazing to see how god's been preparing us all to go.  The way that we have prpared is by having a camp out night where our whole team all slept with two tarps.  One that was actually beneath us and the other that covered over us as our roof.  The men on our team (only 4) were really kind to sleep in the corner so all the girls could sleep and fit without being on top of each other.  This was the first night we were there! And this happened after we had the full...
