Glorious

We are in the barrio that has become known to us as Neverland. The sun is beating down on the cracked basketball court. A dozen dirty faces stare at the colorful pictures of our Spanish Children´s Bible. We flip through the story of The Prodigal Son, and the kids ask for another. As Sarah begins to read the next story, we hear an older boy reading along with her. Sarah invites him to read and he excitedly takes the Children´s Bible and continues reading with confidence and poise. I notice the younger children perk up and pay more attention as their peer and compañero teaches them. He...

Repeat After Me

Today my group and I went to lunch with a family who lives in the borrios close to the center were we live. It was awesome not ony did we get a FULL plate of food and the world cup was on, but we also got to join in on just great family fun. This family is pretty big there are four sisters and their families that live in one Nica house. The houses are made of sheet metal and though they look small from the sheet, it surprizing how much room there is. There are five people in my group so while Ashley and Shelby got to talk to the bed ridden grandmother. Matt, Logan, and I got to have a semi...

Consuming Fire

So a lot has been going on since our move to the Youth Center a week ago.  We´ve had around 100 children over to the Center some afternoons to play, we´ve had closer to 25 or 30 over for a Sunday service, we´ve ALL battled some sort of sickness.  My smaller group has even made friends with a local family and spent countless hours with them just hanging out and talking and joking, even receiving a HUGE lunch today which was amazing.  But recently some of us have been talking about God doing something MUCH more than just the day to day ministry events.  It has been amazing...

Nothing Matters…Except for God

God is love. We´ve heard this many times, but do we truly know what it means?  God loves us more than we can possibly comprehend. We must love like God loves, fully engage ourselves in what is really means to be compassionate towards others, and put on our full suit of kindness and grace.   Yesterday was a day of collecting kids, playing sports with them, coloring and doing chalk art, and just plain old running around and laughing.  We made up a skit from the book of Daniel to teach them that God never will forsake you.  Though these children have homes with broken...

Rain

So this is going to be short. I had something I wanted to blog about but I can´t get the words to come out right. I´ll write it eventually though. But last night here was beyond anything I can express in words. So I´ll just tell you what it did for me. It is technically rainy season for Nicaragaua, but this week was very dry and hot. We were all just hoping for rain. It didn´t happen. It has also been a pretty trying week for a lot of us. We have been dealing with different sicknesses and just being a somewhat miserable. Last night we had an amazing worship time that went on for...

More Like Home

God is absolutely amazing. I can´t even begin to describe the things He´s doing here. We moved into the youth center and in less than a week we´ve had over a hundred kids come to the youth center. Our ministry is really starting to pick up, we´re going into the barrios to talk to people. Alot of the team members are beginning to build strong relationships with the locals. We even have a bread and a fruit lady now =). We´ve hung our canvas up in the kitchen to add a homey touch. We finally got a stove and the other day we prayed for rain. God gave us running water! an unlimited supply, I...
