LIBERTAD!

I’m sitting at our connection in Miami in anxious anticipation of what will happen in Jinotepe, Nicaragua this summer.  That nation, too, waits in ANXIOUS EXPECTATION.  Why?  Because the victory has already been won!  My heart can’t stop smiling at what I (creepily) read when the girl in front of me was texting.  “I just sat on a flight with a bunch of college students heading to spreading the name of God to Nicaragua.  It’s so great to see youth in love with Jesus!”  That’s not at all what I pictured someone in an airport...

Being Obedient vs. Being Lead

A couple of days ago our team went to the hospital. I was teamed with Kristen and we both decided to go to the women's side. It started like a regular visit until we meet Cythia. Cynthia was a 20 year old beatiful women. We started to make small talk with her by commenting on her "Twilight" shirt. She was not open with talking to us, but  God was persisting us to talk with her. And mind you, I don't know much spanish at all. But I can honestly say that the Lord was giving me the words to say. It was crazy! Anyway, we felt lead to pray that God's love will...

Masaya

On our day off a few of us took a trip to Masaya.  On our way home we were able to catch a huge yellow bus that runs as the 'public transportation'. They usually cram way too many people on these buses, but it's a cheap way to get around.  This particular bus travels from Masaya to San Marcos to Diriamba and then eventually to Jinotepe.  The bus was completely crowded, but I was able to get a seat at the very front of the bus.  At the next stop a young woman and her baby stepped on the bus with about 10 others, all the seats were taken, and there were about 30...

mirror|ˈmirÉ™r| noun a reflective surface, now typically of glass coated with a metal amalgam, that reflects a clear image   Kristen- age nineteen, finds herself sorting through a box of old stuff. Looking through she finds old photographs, notes, keepsakes and four mirrors. She can’t recall ever putting any mirrors in this box but she picks one up anyway. The first mirror is small, handheld, completely pink and covered in sparkles. As she gazes at her reflection she’s taken back… It’s summer, she’s sitting on a swing set with Teya wearing a sundress smudged...

Late night Margarita.

As I said in my previous blog the mid-way point is here. Sometimes it seems like I stepped onto the plane in Atlanta, Georgia headed to Nicaragua about 5 months ago. Yet, looking back on my time here it seems to have flown by. There is nothing more to look forward to like mid-way debrief. Not that there is nothing to look forward to in general. There just isn't anything to set a plan of time on. The next big move is our plane ride home. I only have as much time here now as the amount that I have already spent here. This tends to frighten me. I think that I have looked at this trip in a...

When the Going Gets Tough

"Just keep going strong, Alisa. The JOY of the Lord is your strength. You have power to overcome this obstacle. The Lord NEVER gives you more than you can handle. Jesus is here with you. HAVE NO FEAR. Stand firm in the Lord and the identity HE has given you." These were the words that were going through my mind as I climbed to the top of Volcan Mombacho (volcano) with my team aka Sisterhood of the Traveling Awesomeness. Yes…you read correctly! Hahaha  Anywho, our team decided to climb a volcano on our VERY first day off because we figured it would be LOADS of fun...
