Let Your Little Light Shine

""Scientists say that these things evolved this way over millions of years." He shook his head. "That's a bunch of bunk. I don't think an animal can just all-of-a-sudden decide it wants to make light grow out it's butt. What kind of nonsense is that? Animals don't make light." He pointed to the stars. "God does that. I don't know why or how, but I'm pretty sure it's not chance. It's not some haphazard thing he does in his spare time." He looked at me, and his expression changed from one of wonder to seriousness, to absolute...

You Know Your in Nicaragua When….

Hello Everyone!! Things have been going great! Spiritually challenging yes, but great! There has been so much going on and it's not easy to sum it up and describe to all of you back home what it is like living on the island of Ometepe, so I came up with a fun yet insightful list for you to read,  "You know your in Nicaragua when…" •you ride back from church in a half bed pickup truck with 15 other people. •you get to wash your clothes waist deep in the worlds largest fresh water lake , overlooking an active volcano. •your dessert after meals is found...

Island Life

A glance from the outside in at our team may make our life here in Ometepe Nicaragua seem like a page torn straight from a storybook. We live on a tropical island with a majestic smoking volcano in our backyard, as well as a grassy beach and calm clear waters. There are farm and wild animals (cows, horses, chickens, pigs, goats, dogs, etc.) that scavenge and flock around us close enough to touch daily. We wade out in the water to hand wash our cloths. Nature is living and breathing in unity around us (one peek at the ground and you’re watching “a bug’s life”), and...

A Guarded Heart

¨A heart. A guarded heart.¨ Those were the first words that Alyssa spoke in the listening prayer. This prayer is special in that the speaker had no idea who they were praying for and it was so early in our training camp sessions that none of us got to know each other on a deep level quite yet. In order to do this prayer there needs to be two circles. The inside circle closes their eyes and must listen to whatever God is telling them. The outer circle moves around and finds a person to put their hands on. I think this moment will forever change my life. For years, I have put up a...

A Journey Just Begun

Hola amigos y familia! It has been a fantastic 3 days so far at the orphange, I originally left for Atlanta, GA on May 31st for 4 days of training camp, and left June 4th for Nicaragua. We arrived at the orphanage; Cicrin; on the 5th. Thursday was our first full day of ministry and we were each assigned different places that they needed help at. I was assigned to work in the garden which I was beyond excited for. At Cicrin they grow squash, corn, tomatoes, pineapple, chillies, and cucumbers and also raise their own chickens and a mix between a sheep and a goat.   Our job that day was...

The Daily Mural Of My Life

Last night during dinner I sat and listened to my beautiful teammates chatter about the day. Almost every evening here so far, there have been spectacular sunsets. After dinner while my team was still conversing, I decided to take a moment to really see the sunset.                 I passed a couple of girls on their way back from taking a photograph of the miraculous mural in front of me. As I stood there, I asked once...
