Our first night of training we were given $1 each and challenged to go out into the streets of Atlanta and allow the spirit to lead us to specific people who really need to be loved and listened to. After much prayer and slight hesitation Jenny, Katie and I were being drawn to a homeless man laying on some stairs of a near by building. As we walked up and started talking to him it became very apparent that he was most likely strung out on some kind of drug. His name is Sherman and the spirit just allowed our attempts to talk to him go smoothly and after 10 minutes he was telling us his story and sharing his dreams. We were able to share the gospel with him and speak a lot of truth specific to questions he asked us. We were able to pray for him and his needs. And after we prayed it was like we were talking to a completely different person. He no longer looked affected by any drug that was in his is system and he was smiling and talking with us like we’ve known each other for years. It was amazing. He told us that he wished people that love God like us would come out every night and talk to the people living on the streets of Atlanta, because of the hope and encouragement we had given him. He was so surprised that “people like us” even existed. When we said our good byes he gave us all big hugs and smiles and thank yous for taking the time to talk and show interest in his life. It was an great night and an amazing start to our mission trip! Praise Christ!
