So yesterday Stephanie and I went to the hardwear store in search of steel and wood to help patch up the Casita, Helen´s family´s little house. Some of the walls have been missing for some time, and the roof is sketchy, with plastic covering it and rocks to hold it down. Needless to say, they needed some assistance. I feel so grateful having the experience of letting the husband Jose pick out exactly what he needed and bringing the rest of the family along to see that soon their house would be fixed!! I was so very excited for them. We told them that this was not our doing, but God´s, and that they would have a house where Jesus would protect them always…and they completely understood that. Going to the hardwear store reminded me of going to Home Depot when I was little with my dad and brought back a lot of good memories. On top of that, I could see it in their faces they were just so thankful, and so were we.
Today Shelby and Ashley and I ate lunch at their store and just enjoyed each other´s company, then I went to get ice cream with Helen´s family at “Eskimo.” It was such a joy to see 73 year old Gertrude out of the casita and eating a giant cone of vanilla ice cream. Ruth, the little 7 year old, was loving her strawberry cone and red Fanta. It was so nice to sit together in town and just smile and take in the last few moments we´re going to have with them in Jinotepe…forever. It will be hard to say goodbye to them. Helen gave me a photo of her in a parade she was in last year for me to keep, and it just means so much. God works in big ways, in small ways, in all ways…He is a constant reminder of love.
Love love love
