I chose to love
When we walked by an older man living at the dump
And went over and said hello
I chose to love
When the man began to cry
As he told us of his pain
How he hadn’t eaten in three days
I chose to love
As we prayed blessing and healing over over him
And again, as I felt God calling me to pray once more
I chose to love
When I fasted and prayed for this man later that day
I chose to love
When we checked on him two days later
And the situation worsened
Due to a possible broken rib
I chose to love
When I got up early to help pick him up from the dump
And get him checked out
I chose to love
As my team and I gave money
for an x-ray and hospital visit
I chose to love
By weaving through market streets
to get the man food for the next few meals
I chose to love
When we found out he didn’t break a rib
And he wasn’t that sick
I chose to love
Even though he probably took advantage
of our love and compassion
I chose to love
And I will continue to love
Maybe he did rob us of time and money
Maybe he did take advantage of me
But maybe God worked through us
Maybe God started healing
Maybe we will never know the impact we had on this man
All I know is
Jesus chose to love
Jesus chose to love
When He died on the cross
Jesus chose to love
Knowing that many would never love Him back
Jesus chose to love
Knowing that many would take advantage of Him
Jesus chose to love
Jesus chose to love
The lowest of the lows
And the worst of the worst
Jesus chose to love me
Even though I am unworthy
Jesus chose to love
Jesus still chooses to love
Every minute, every hour
Jesus chooses to love
And enables me to love
People may abuse my love
People may not believe my love
But I will never apologize for loving
God calls me to love
And so I will choose to love
I will choose to love
As Jesus loves
I will choose to love
No matter what the circumstance
I will choose to love
