“Heads Up”

"Faith is resting in the fact that God has an objective in leaving me on the scene when I feel useless to Him and a burden to others."      As the morning breeze of February 17, 2011 lingered it's way through our open windows, it carried with it the promise of new mercies and grace. Although this particular day progressed no differently than any other, it would be the day that my fragileness would present itself, and where God's strength would be my resting place.      Now let's step back, as of a week ago I began shadowing Lynn Schweitzer...

Have you “cleaned” your house?

How many of you have ever "cleaned up" by hiding your junk in a drawer or in a closet? You know what it is like when someone says they are coming over in 5 minutes, and you have to “clean up.” What ends up happening is that your guest assumes that your house is "clean" and everything is in place. But what they don't realize is that you have hidden junk, and that truthfully your house is a MESS! So, I know many of you are wondering how this story pertains to anything. The truth of the matter is, I was that MESSY house. My whole life I have stuffed all the...

I will praise my Lord

But, these people have nothing and they never fail to have a smile on their face, no matter what their teeth look like...

Poverty: Search for an Unbiased Perspective

I’m going to preface this blog with the following comments: 1) I am obsessed with asking questions about the nature of God and the universe in which we live. 2) This blog will try to represent only a handful of thoughts that have been in my mind during these past few weeks since coming to Nicaragua. 3) For those of you who don’t know me personally, I am a Social Justice Major in college and issues of poverty and wealth deeply affect me. I do come from a wealthy background, but I have set out on a path that is leading me toward community and solidarity with people on the...
