The Way to Simplicity

One of my favorite things in the world is living with families who live in some of the toughest but simplest conditions. In Africa, I had the opportunity to stay with a pastor for a few nights in which there was no running water, electricity, or other "luxurious" assets we as Americans take for granted. I, along with two others, got to travel two hours in the African bush to hang out with the Masai tribe for a day. By far, one of my most unforgettable and life-changing moments I have had the privilege to partake in. So, needless to say, I was super excited for the...

The Poorest

You have at least one mirror in your house right? I mean, you can probably recall someone holding a mirror up to you at a super young age, or maybe you can't remember it but you know it happened. You've always known what you look like, you can pick yourself out of a photo without even thinking, right? Of course you can, everyone knows what they look like…. right?            Wrong, this past week I stayed with a family in the barrios, well actually it was a few miles out of the barrios. No...

Insider’s Look

It is crazy to think that I have already been here in Jinotepe, Nicaragua for three and a half months. Where has the time gone??? Since being here, my incredible team has worked with a ministry that has reached so many hearts in this area of Nicaragua. Mateo 5:16 was created 10 years ago by Glenn and Lynne Schweitzer. They heard the voice of the Lord speak and walked in obedience-not realizing what the Holy Spirit would do in and through both of them throughout the upcoming years.  As Glenn and Lynne listened to and acted in the Spirit, they developed deep bonds with the...

Being Obedient vs. Being Lead

A couple of days ago our team went to the hospital. I was teamed with Kristen and we both decided to go to the women's side. It started like a regular visit until we meet Cythia. Cynthia was a 20 year old beatiful women. We started to make small talk with her by commenting on her "Twilight" shirt. She was not open with talking to us, but  God was persisting us to talk with her. And mind you, I don't know much spanish at all. But I can honestly say that the Lord was giving me the words to say. It was crazy! Anyway, we felt lead to pray that God's love...

Tangibly Rich, Poor In Knowlege

Last week Kristen and I had the wonderful opportunity of staying with a beautiful family from our church for four days. It hit me over and over again while I was there how rich I am and I don't even realize it. The easiest way for me to sum up how rich I am in comparison, is to look at the first hour and a half of my day.        First I wake up and roll out of my queen size bed. This family had one bed, without a mattress, and three small cots for 9 people to share.        The next...

Random Thoughts

This past week Wendi, Alisa and I lived with the Madesto family in a barrio that is within a short walk from our home on the Nueva Vida missionary compound. We have been visiting the Madesto family for about two months now, and last week they welcomed the three of us into their home for five days. I feel as though I could write paragraphs upon paragraphs about the genuine sense of hospitality they showed us or the joys of living in a home with 23 Nicaraguans but I honestly don´t feel like elaborating on any of those topics right now. As much as I feel alive right now, I am also...
