Training camp

Going into this trip I didn’t feel at all prepared for what we were doing. Thankfully, AIM offers an amazing training camp to help all those unsure people such as myself. Throughout the four days we have spent at camp the AIM staff has done such an amazing job working with us and preparing us for the next couple months. Through community building activities such as sleeping in a tarp shelter our first night freezing our butts off, awesome dance off’s, and creating our own mural representing our team and what we want to gain from this trip, we all feel as though we have known...

May 15

I am sitting in first class on an airplane bound for San Antonio (because my dad is a Delta pilot and with that comes free tickets depending on seat availability). First class is an interesting place for someone who just spent four months living in a third world country to be, and I feel quite out of place with my disheveled hair, glasses that are slightly tilted and keep falling off my nose, dirty sandals that I have worn everyday for the past four months, black workout pants that are rolled up, Leigha's oversized bright orange t-shirt from Goodwill, and this messy notebook in my lap...

Whats Normal?

Bags packed, seats taken, take off,  and final landing. My heart beat fast and my body push through to get the first glimpse of my beautiful family. When I saw the smile of my mother I couldn't help but run into her arms and sense the presence of tears four months awaiting. The embrace of my parents was the one thing I needed to feel in order to believe I was right where I was supposed to be. Four months ago I took a chance on an adventure that would change my perspective on everything I once believed to be normal. As I walked into my home and climbed the first flight of...

Good Bye For Now….

I am writing this last blog sitting in the Atlanta airport ALONE… the first time in 4 months. I just said goodbye to the last of my 8 sisters… and now I sit here thinking "What just happened?" Yes, I am a little emotional. It's not easy saying goodbye to 8 best friends who youve spent almost every day with for the past 4 months. But right now, I just want to talk about how great the last 4 months has been. Not only has God worked through each and every one of us to witness to the people of NIcaragua, He has also worked IN each and...

The End or Something.

This is the tenth airplane I've ever been on. Along side me are two delta planes and one ahead getting ready to take off. Between the three planes, I'm sure one carries Leigha, one Wendi, and one Jennifer. Why do I assume this? Simply because we all had similar departure times and they are all flying Delta. Going the opposite way to take off is an Air Tran Airplane probably carrying Calah. All of us leaving each other for the first time in four months. Behind me a woman speaks and I think it's Britt, I hear a unmistakable ounce of laughter and I look quickly beside me to...

The Last of La Quinta (for now)

Saturday: May 8th, 2011             I’m lying in bed like I do every night, this time in the girl’s room at La Quinta. I’ve never asked to sleep in here before, mostly because the rooms are usually full and because they always have a set up for us in another building. Today it was different because it’s my last night at La Quinta. I can’t even comprehend leaving after the awesome day I just had. Tonight the events before, after and during dinner made me feel more at home than I have in the past four...
