The Adventure Begins…

…and what an adventure it has already been! The past four days of training camp in Tennessee have been a whirlwind of new faces, teaching sessions, team activities and reflection on God and his awesome purpose for these next two months. I’ve heard more southern accents, sighted more fireflies and seen more people wearing Chacos, Tevas and Toms in one place than I ever have in my life. I’ve worn two shirts and taken one shower since my family dropped me off at the airport Thursday night (don’t judge me—I’m surprisingly one of the cleaner people here). I...

Open Ears

We have learned so many different things these past few days. But I think the most important thing that I will take away from training is to open my ears and listen to God's words. We did an exercise last night where we prayed that only God's words were to be heard and then to speak them upon people. I have never experienced anything like that before, but just feeling the presence of the Holy Spirit in the room was amazing. I realized how powerful His words can be and how important it is just to be quiet and listen to Him.  Training camp was not what I was expecting. It was...

Are you thankful?

Whoa!! I never thought that the day would come that I would actually get in the car to travel to Chattanooga for training camp! As I rode in the car I had a million emotions going through my mind. Let’s fast forward and we arrive at training (in the middle of nowhere) I step off the bus and take my luggage to the designated area and grab out my water bottle. We all gather inside and was told to grab three items out of our bags…in my mind I was thinking “oh dear!” Once I received the news that our first night of training camp was to be slept outside the only thing...

Make a Banana Boat and Float

Tomorrow I’m jumping on a plane to Nicaragua, where I’ll be serving for the next two months.  Tomorrow!!  I am so unbelievably excited to see how God will move and use me during my time there, and the past few days at training camp have completely reaffirmed why I am going.  My purpose in life is to be more than just a “friendly person” but to be a godly person that is here to share His love and hope with everyone I encounter.  I now, more than ever, am confident in my identity in Christ as His beloved daughter.  He made me special,...

Strength from the Lord

The last four days have been the hardest for me, but they have prepared me in such a way for the trip & for life in general that I would not have gained in any other way. I have learned quite a bit about the reality of life & how easy I have it back home. I have gained a whole new understanding of the Bible verse Philippians 4:3, "I can do all things through Him who gives me strength." I have realized that too much in my daily life I do not turn to God or trust Him like I should. I have definitely seen my blessings in living where I do &...

Declare Yourself.

I am Loved! I am Beautiful! I am Wanted! I am Free! I am Pursued! I am the Beloved! I am the Bride of Christ! Picture it. Thirty people standing in a field in the middle of the mountains in Copperhill, TN during the darkness of the night. One girl says, “I am Loved.”  The group follows her screaming at the top of their lungs, “I AM LOVED!” The people are so loud you can hear the echoes far into the mountains and all around the campground. These people who shouted to the mountains are my group, Team Nicaragua. On Saturday, we learned of declarations during a...
