LIBERTAD!

I’m sitting at our connection in Miami in anxious anticipation of what will happen in Jinotepe, Nicaragua this summer.  That nation, too, waits in ANXIOUS EXPECTATION.  Why?  Because the victory has already been won!  My heart can’t stop smiling at what I (creepily) read when the girl in front of me was texting.  “I just sat on a flight with a bunch of college students heading to spreading the name of God to Nicaragua.  It’s so great to see youth in love with Jesus!”  That’s not at all what I pictured someone in an...

Real Close Real Fast

I arrived at Chattanooga Airport around 3:00 p.m. on Friday to meet my teammates who were all complete strangers to me. Little did I know, several hours later we would be spooning in a home-made tent from two tarps in the middle of the woods. Since each team member got to bring 3 things from their luggage, 3 of us shared 1 pillow the whole night. Talk about getting Real Close Real Fast. Adventure does not even sum up our first night experience. This was only the beginning of our teams bonding. God has really shown me the importance of community in Him. He truly taught us how essential it is...

Safe in Nicaragua

We just spoke with the team leader and they've all arrived safely in Nicaragua.  They are in route to their ministry site and will be settling in these next few days and getting some orientation from their host.  Expect to see some blogs rolling out in the next few days as they find internet. Thanks for all the prayers for this team! Real Life field support team

Strangers becoming family

The night before I left I was so fortunate to be able to spend time with family and friends. My mom cooked a delicious meal and we all came together and ate. We laughed, enjoyed each others company and had a wonderful time!! At one point I sat back and realized that I am loved. I have been blessed with such amazing people in my life who support me, encourage me, challenge me and love me. I knew these things prior to this dinner yet this time I soaked these moments up. It was beautiful. While at training camp I have become more grateful for family and friends, for laughter and memories that...

Prisons

Training Camp was not what I expected. I arrived in the Atlanta airport with a two hour layover until I flew to Chattanooga, Tennessee. I was sitting there minding my own business when a college aged girl approached me. She asked me if I was going on a Real life trip and I was surprised but answered yes. She answered that she was too and invited me to join a bunch of other Real Life participants on the other side of the desk.  I had no idea that we were going to be training with all the other Real life teams! It has been so great spending time with all of these Christian college...

Training camp

Going into this trip I didn’t feel at all prepared for what we were doing. Thankfully, AIM offers an amazing training camp to help all those unsure people such as myself. Throughout the four days we have spent at camp the AIM staff has done such an amazing job working with us and preparing us for the next couple months. Through community building activities such as sleeping in a tarp shelter our first night freezing our butts off, awesome dance off’s, and creating our own mural representing our team and what we want to gain from this trip, we all feel as though we have known...
