Tarzan look out for that tree!

For a moment I told myself no. I needed rest, I wanted to spend time on the internet, and I wanted to be alone….. I did not want to go to the beach with my team on another one of my internet/free days! Last night I decided I would stay back and have my own fun, my own time alone. That was until God woke me up, literally He woke me up and said I was going to go whether I wanted to or not. I was a little frustrated that God told me to go, why in the world did it matter! So I did my usual on the ride; listen to my music and block the rest out…. That only lasted for so long...

buckets half full

It's early in the morning, around six o'clock. After a night of tossing and turning on the dusty floor, I finally rise to the sound of roosters crowing and rays of sunlight bursting through the cracks in the walls. The hour has come to begin a new day. First thing is first, I take a collection of buckets and carry them down the narrow path until I reach the source of survival: the well. I make conversation as I stand in line while the earlier risers take their share of the water. I waste no time in beginning to pump as my neighbors finish up. I have built up quite an endurance to...

Confident

This week has been a blast! Bible study, spanish lessons, visits to Bethel and continuing building relationships in the village, building a house for one of our cooks, pumping buckets of water to make concrete, dance parties, shopping in the market, eating chocolate bananas, killing tarantulas, and going to our first spanish church service were only a few parts of our awesome week. This week our team was talking about the holy spirit living in us and what this means. God taught me how He equips us to do his work and blesses us with different spiritual gifts, each for a specific purpose. The...

Here to be Joy!

Names hold significance. All throughout the Bible, God calls his chosen people by name. He changes people's names to symbolize a spiritual change or specific calling, such as Abram to Abraham. John the Baptist's parents went against tradition in naming him because God appointed a name for their son. The angel Gabriel told Mary what to name her unborn son, Jesus. In my life, I have come to realize the truth behind my name's meaning. Allegra means cheerful, merry, happy, or something to that extent. That's who I am. During cultural briefing at training camp, we were told...

God’s challenging me…

Trusting and hearing from God can be a challenge. These are the two things that God has been working on with me for the last year. Lately, He has been speaking to me about trusting in His plans. He has given me the complete freedom to say no, I will follow my own plans, or yes, I will listen to you God. I have chosen the harder of the two and said Yes Lord. I have been hearing His voice clearer than any other time in my life and when I will just be still and listen He loves to speak to me. He loves to reveal new things to me if I ask Him. A couple thousand years ago God spoke to Jeremiah....

how do you describe the indescribable?

This indescribable experience, given to me by an even more indescribable God… I can't explain it all. This week has been great in so many ways! I love the sunrises, the coffee, the food, the family time, the people. We've worked on a house for the cook, Estella. We've played with kids in Bethel. We've made relationships with people and had conversations we'll never forget. We've grown closer as a team and gotten to know each other on many more levels. I don't think we could have picked a better ending to this week/start to this upcoming week than what God...
