a day in the mind of Juan Carlos…

Juan Carlos is one of the Vision Nicaragua staff who we have the privilege of working with every day. He is truly a man of God and is full of wisdom and great advice. And, as we are learning more and more each day, he is hilarious. As Lindsey and I write this blog, the conversations become funnier and funnier as we think about all of the Spanglish exchanged throughout the day. Pair him with Mario, and you get quite the dramatic duo. We wish we could remember it all, or know how to type it for that matter. Here is a glimpse of our laughter throughout today as we painted with him all day...

There are beetles falling from the ceiling…

SPLAT. There's another one. As we begin a new season here in Nicaragua we have encountered gushing winds, ripe mangos (finally!), and…white bodied beetles? It makes trying to sit and blog very difficult as beetles are falling like rain around me.  But really, we are starting a new season here as we cross our halfway mark and begin the second half of our trip. After debrief I realized not only how much more I want to serve and grow here but how much God has done already through my team and I here. In these next couple of months I am excited to explore new ministry...

You Make Me Feel Like Dancing!

Today we were able to do something new, something different. We went to an orphanage about an hour or so away. We weren’t too sure what to expect when we got there, but when we did we were all amazed. We pulled up to this beautiful place with so much land. We drove down a gravel/dirt driveway for a while. We got to where the orphans lived and were greeted by huge smiles and sweet hugs. There were about thirteen girls that we met. The director of the orphanage took us on a tour of everything. There were two houses finished with kids living in them, and they were finishing up on a...

Tu sabes que Dios o tu conoces que Dios??

Tu sabes que Dios o tu conoces que Dios??   Do you know God or do you know God?   In Spanish, there are two words for the verb “to know”. These are SABER and CONOCER. Saber is to know of something or someone, on the surface level, like an acquaintance. Conocer is to know someone or something really well, to have a deep relationship with them.   Yesterday, God put Leo in my path, a 32 year old writer, philosopher, and poet, who does not know God. He knows about Him, but admits that he doesn’t even believe in Him. We had a long, long conversation and I learned...

Naked as we Came

Unfortunately, sin has found a way to leak through the seams of our world and contaminate every part of it. As soon as we entered into the world, sin also entered us. However, nothing is as pure to me as a newborn taking it's first breath of life. Everything about that baby is so honest; he cries when he's hungry and sleeps when he's tired. We need to get back to the organic way of life and go back to being naked as we came. So many times Christians put on a fake smile and try to come up with a few convincing words of what God is doing in their lives at that...

You call me FLAWLESS!

A few weeks back our leader Shawndell challenged us to hear from the Lord what He calls us, what our "name" from Him was… As some of you may know He called me FLAWLESS! So amazing!  But here is something that isn't so great, you see it's one thing to HEAR and another to BELIEVE.  God had to reveal this to me again tonight that I had to believe that I was FLAWLESS because of HIM. That He couldn't move me forward until I believed what He was proclaiming over me.  Debrief so far has been greater than I could have ever imagined. God is RESTORING,...
