1 Week & God doesn’t do rhythm.

It's one week after returning. It's one week into life at home. It's one week into life away from physical poverty. Apparent physical poverty.  It's one week into apparent spiritual poverty. One week. So much has happened! Visitations accompanied with plenty of story-telling practice.  Training at a new job. Reconnecting with friends and family.  Arranging move-in. Creating flyers, check list, and call lists. Busy, busy, busy! And even though it has been a week, this is my 3rd night home.  I still don't have a bed to call my own and I'm still...

How can you not be changed?

Dear anyone and everyone who may be expecting me to come back the same, It's not happening.  When I got to training camp, the prayer that was on my heart was that God would change me. I was a girl who struggled with her identity, and wanted to know the joy that was in Christ. I was so scared of being out of my comfort zone, but God (once again) blew me away.  Two months ago I walked down the hallway of the airport to meet the fourteen other people that would become my family. Two months ago I left my home of comfort and luxury to go to the second pooreset country in the...

Old Blog that I forget to post earlier (sorry) :)

Sorry, this is from the end of June, I just forgot to update it. Hahaha:)   “You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ Jesus clothed yourselves with Christ.” -Galatians 3:26-27   God has been teaching me SO many things while I’ve been in Nicaragua. He has set many things on my heart, and one of those had been baptism. I was baptized when I was a baby, but it my parents decision and not mine, I had not made that declaration of faith. I had seen many of my friends get baptized, but I wasn’t ready for...

Forgotten Gold

Last week I saw a little boy drinking mouthwash from a dirty little plastic Scope bottle he found in the heaps of garbage at the city dump… When we told the story of Jesus calming the storm (Mark 4:35-41) to a group of children by the road, my teammate Chris asked the kids what happens during a storm, expecting to hear the familiar terms of “trueno” (thunder), “lluvia” (rain), “rayo” (lightning).  Instead, however, one dusty, shirtless little guy blurted out: “Your home washes away!” All around fences were made of rusted,...

Good Food and Tarantulas

This is a more fun blog than serious. I've been keeping a recipe book of all the Nicaraguan dishes we've been fed, and I've even had the opportunity to help in the kitchen a good bit. Ironically enough, my favorite recipe I've gotten was from an American cafe in Moyogalpa, Ometepe. The cafe was called the cornerhouse, and was run by Americans working with the peace corps. This is the best picture I could get of it. To any Mom wanting to welcome their son or daughter back to the states in the best way, a plate full of these should go above and beyond…hint hint Mom. And...
