A Talk to Remember

I have heard it said the the beginning of a journey will set the tone for the enter trip. So I hope that is  true because I had an amazing first. After walking through the pouring rain  from the Marta to the Safe House ( a homeless shelter in Atlanta), we put out wet stuff in a room and headed out to have our first big group meeting. We worshiped and got an encouraging word and then were sent out on to the streets of Atlanta with a mission. Talk to people and share God’s word. Simple enough. By this time it was 8:30 pm and I was bubbling with excitement. We broke up into groups and set out. We ended up in from of the Atlanta Hospital. Two by two we spread out to tell the people around Gods words. My partner was Shelby. We climbed the stairs of the hospital and spotted two women sitting on the curb smoking. So we walked over to them and asked them if we could sit and talk to them for a little. We introduced ourselves and Shelby told them what we were doing. At first the women whose name I would later learn was Gina look suspicious of us, but after a couple minutes she started to tell me her whole story. She told me all of her struggles and how she had been trying to seeking God lately. Gina was was about 25 and 8 months pregnant and so very cute. She told me that she was going to call her baby Mary after her grandmother and even let me feel the baby kicking. We sat and talked for over an hour. As Shelby talked with Mascy ( Gina’s best friend form childhood), Gina told me how nice it was just to have someone to talk to and how it was a real release of stress. I felt so touched that God would use me to comfort a complete stranger and was amazed at the timing of our talk in Gina’s life. I ended our conversion by praying for Gina and her baby. Then we hugged like old friends and said our good byes. Since then God has continued to teach me and work me and I have learn so much already. And we haven’t even left the States yet!! So more next…
