Friday morning, I left rainy South Florida to head up here (Tocoa Falls, Ga.) to embark on training camp before flying to Nicaragua. After a four-hour flight delay for my hour-long flight in a crowded airport full of grumbling individuals, I arrived in Atlanta, where I was given a ride back up to the college where we are staying (complete with a beautiful waterfall).
Just three days into camp, I'll share the two most prevalent thoughts in my head from the past few days: 1) The structure of worship, expressing faith and the group's community have been something extremely different than the things I'm used to and 2) I have an incredible group alongside me as we go to Central America.
I'm grateful to say I'm extremely blessed by both number one and two.
Tomorrow we'll pack our bags, venture back to Atlanta's busy airport and hop on an airplane that will take us to Managua, Nicaragua. I'm looking forward to getting into some of the work we'll be doing there. As a gringo who can speak some Spanish, I'll be excited to finally be able to put that into use. More than anything, I'm looking forward to the different expriences God has for us there as we carry out the things He has called us to. My "cherry on top" of that excitement is that fact I'll be doing so with an incredibly diverse, caring, unique and enjoyable group of my brothers and sisters.
Oh wait, you have to add an additional 30 minutes to the start time of any scheduled activity in Central America? #gringoproblems.
