Humility, crutches and a broken pie

If you guys are on Facebook, I'm sure some of you heard about my little misadventure with my foot two weeks ago.  If you haven't, let me fill you in…..   BEFORE     AFTER     For those of you that know me, it may come as a shock to find out that this exceedingly graceful and coordinated girl should break her foot playing soccer (I hope you caught the sarcasm there).  The story really isn't that interesting, suffice it to say I will be more careful when trying to learn new tricks next time I'm playing...

Watching a Miracle Unfold

Last week in my blog, I mentioned Tonio, a man dying of a kidney disease that is very common here in Nicaragua. Like so many other men, Tonio contracted this kidney disease from pesticides while working in the sugarcane fields. Unlike any other man with the disease that I've met, Tonio was visibly sick, weakening in a bed by the day. In our world today, we like to think, as proud humans, that we have most things figured out. Finding a cure for this particular disease however, is not one of those things. Medicine can slow the disease's progression. It can grant a little extra...

Choose.

To the things and people of this world: I DO NOT SERVE YOU ANY LONGER The Lord has taken my life as His. He has claimed my being as His vessel to spread His truth to His people. He has created me to be a missionary. He chooses YOU to be one too. He has given you eyes to see the lost souls, a mouth to speak in love to them, ears to hear their cries, and feet to run to them and give them comfort. He has put intentionally put you in a situation where this happens every day. Believe me, He has. When are your eyes going to adjust to the darkness that has invaded this world? Being a follower of...

Another definition of insanity

"Would you rather know that you are loved, accepted or important?" I was posed this question two weeks ago, and it has been on my mind ever since.  Allegra was the one who asked the question, and she followed it quickly with: "I bet I know which one it is.  I think you probably would want to know that you are important."  I knew that the question was much deeper than my environment would let me think at that moment, so I shrugged it off.  "I'm not so sure… I'm gonna have to get back to you on that one." Well I've been...

Blood Money

After gathering several teammates, we circled around the bed of a sick and dying man. Unable to walk or support himself, Tonio is now totally bed-ridden at age 30. Though Tonio has only been sick for 15 months, it is evident that his kidney disease has rapidly progressed. Just this morning, I prayed for Ernesto, a 29 year old man with a wife and 4 year old daughter, who has the same disease. All people with this disease are in need of prayer, but as I looked down on Tonio withering away on a bed, the disease became real and frightening. Desperate to see this man healed, we lifted our...

I wish I had something cooler to call this blog other than Photo Blog

Hello! Sorry I have been the biggest slacker about blogging.  Welp. For those of you who haven't had the chance to check out all the pictures on Facebook, here are a few commemorating some excellent moments from the past few weeks: We were invited to go on a day-trip with the church from Bethel! Such a fun day 🙂 This is a picture of the hike we took down the mountain. Interesting, eventful trip… Lindsey and I with some friends from Leon. The precious little girl on my lap is named Namari. She is my buddy when we go to the basketball court to play with...
