I played chicken with the train.

Ok, so I didn't really play chicken with the train. It just so happens that those lyrics are randomly running through my head. Over the past week I have been trying so hard to write my next blog. But yet, at the end of each attempt, I am completely unsatified at my attempt to capture my feelings. So as I sit here in the awesome pizza cafe, I type unscripted with the promise that I will post whatever I type this time. We are coming up on the one month mark and I can tell. The first pangs of homesickness are hitting and the bugs are starting to get on my nerves. Any chance for something...

Jesus’ Hands were Man Hands

I believe we are all the hands and feet of Jesus, but some of us, in some circumstances, should be allowed to add the adjective "man" in front of hands. I'll give you a normal schedule from any day Monday – Friday to explain.   6:30am: Wake up, go lay in the pavilion hammocks that overlook the mountain bordered lake to do some quiet time.   8:00am: Breakfast: always rice & beans. Sometimes some type of fruit, and if it's eggs then it's a good day.   8:30am – 9:00am: Bible study with team, we're finishing up Daniel ...

Perelandra comes to Life

So I am currently reading Perelandra by C.S. Lewis. It seems like so far the whole book is a stretch for words to describe the indescribable. While really hard to understand, as all C.S. Lewis literature is, it amazes me. But today, I think I experienced a piece of this mystical land. Where everything is new. Everything is illuminated. Everything is a new experience. Where words are “too vague” and everything else “too definite.” Today things became fresh and everything that had become routine or regular gained something special and unexplored. Trying to tell about...

I don’t kill ants in Nica ’cause…

1. They are just working so hard! I mean, how much can they really be doing with ALL those leaves?!?! 2. They don't bite….I think. 3. They are by far the least annoying bugs here. 4. They tell a wonderful story about perseverance that I seem to be constantly reminded of here.   In the grand scheme of the tree by the water tank, the ants are well, small. There are many more things in the "tree" community that have a bigger effect on me. For example… ….the crows.   They wake us up every morning and like to scream at each other even though they are...

always faithful.

Sometimes, things don't go as planned.  You plan on posting a video-blog, but the internet is too slow for it to upload. You plan on working all morning in the garden, but it pours instead. You plan on finishing the rock pile, but the tarantulas deteer you from that.  You plan on spending your summer working camp, but then the Lord wrecks your heart and you end up on an island instead. You plan on laying low at church and end up preaching. You are so looking forward to a good night's rest, but the fans break and you spend a majority of the evening praying and...

#freedom

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. –Galatians 5:1 One night at training camp we sang the song Break Every Chain by Will Reagan (I have no idea if I spelled that right), if you’ve never heard it, you should probs look it up…but here’s some of the lyrics:   There is power in the name of Jesus To break every chain, break every chain, break every chain.   All sufficient sacrifice So freely given such a price Bought our redemption Heaven’s gates swing wide ...
