With God’s will, there is a way!

Hey everyone!! Sorry that it’s been so long since I last wrote my blog, but things have been so busy here for us! There are so many things that have just gone so differently from what we were expecting. It just goes to show once again, that we must bend to God’s will and that He will change our plans when He wants to. So we ended up leaving the island of Ometepe on Father’s Day. We left because things with the pastor did not work out well. So on Father’s Day, we made our way to the city of Granada as our temporary home until we figured out what else we were going to...

My New Best Friends

I've had the blessing to share my adventures With many amazing and stellar creatures These friends are with me through every day And walk me through my joy and dismay.   I’ve had the pleasure of living with them, Sharing trips and sharing bread They help me through my many chores And even shop with me through the stores   These friends are there to wake me up, To hang on my toothbrush and drink from my cup. A few other places they hang out with me, Are my bed, my books, and my computer screen.   Needless to mention they are such helpful...

I’m running away from home!!!

So today I learned that context clues and hand signals can only get you so far when talking to a group of Nicaraguan niñas. Connie, the lovely lady in the picture below, informed me this morning, as she stood with a stack of bags, that she was running away from home. This of course wasn’t the easiest thing to understand and she didn’t look terribly upset so I figured it was just a young girl stage or that maybe she was upset that another child was being adopted that day. I told her I loved her and that I would miss her (No me gusta no Connie). I learned later...

Jogging Through

It is a little weird doing a serious, heartfelt blog post, but I'll give it a try. We've been here now for a little over a month and are now over the halfway point. I'd be lying if I said I haven't been homesck recently, and to someone who rarely gets homesick, it's quite a helpless feeling. During one of my little jogs around the island and idea for a blog post struck me. We all go through trials in our life. Trials don't always have to be something bad, but usually they will stretch us past what we are normally used to. They can be a relationship, a job, losing a...

DIRT!

There is dirt on my face There is dirt on my nose There is dirt in my hair And dirt in my toes There's dirt in my mouth There's dirt on my knees There's dirt in my shorts And dirt in my teeth There's dirt on my eyelids There's dirt on my neck There's dirt in my nails And dirt on my chest There's dirt in my ears And dirt in my socks And how did this happen? By carrying rocks!! Our team has been helping out at Finca – a branch of Casa Betesda (the Orphanage) – by moving rocks to a dry river bed to prevent erosion when it rains....

Twelve dollar jar of peanut butter? Check.

So far I've done many things that I'd never thought I'd do before. One of those is buy a twelve dollar jar of peanut butter. It was the best thing I've ever purchased, just saying. We're entering our fourth week being gone, and I can't believe time is moving as fast as it is. It's really weird to think that we have less than two weeks at the orphanage. One of the little girls is in the process of getting adopted, and so her future parents have been at the orphanage spending time with her. As excited as I am for her, it is so hard to watch the other children who...
