Adventures in Lake Nicaragua

We are all so happy to be in Nicaragua and working with Cicrin! I am just going to share a quick story now, and will hopefully be able to share more general things later 🙂 On Thursday, after several hours of working in the garden with Robert (a staff member), Kelsey, Anna, and I decided we desperately needed a shower (we were pretty nasty!). Since there were gnats all over the shower (praise God for taking away the plague of gnats since then!!), we decided to go in the lake instead. So we brought our shower stuff with us and walked out to the clothes-washing station with 2 of the...

Keeping Your Eyes Open

Hello everyone! I'd like to tell you about Dunia.  Dunia is a little girl I have met here that has stolen my heart. She is one of the youngest girls here and she is sassy!  Matter a beautiful ferry ride across the lake, and a very "buggy" bus ride we arrived and were greeted by lots of hugs from the kids! We made it time for a fiesta they were having to celebrate "The week of the Child." The fiesta is where I met Dunia. At first it was just looks across the dance floor during the folk dances, but then she came over after the piñata was broken and...

Hacer Estrellas

Today was a day like many other…I spent some time in a handstand. My friend Anna told the girls we were playing with, ¨Mira, mira¨(look, look) so I could do handstands for them. The fun began when one of the girls started ¨hacer estrellas¨(doing cartwheels). We were able to do handstands together and have joy in the universal desire to have fun upside down.   Another great moment was being joined by two young boys on my hammock. They just jumped on, so I brought out my Spanish Bible for kids. One of the boys was old enough to read to me, and I asked the other to...

No Day But Today

"Jesus is most interested in our today." Last week, I was in Georgia at training camp, preparing to spend the next two months in Ometepe Island, Nicaragua. I was unsure how helpful this training would be and was anxious to get to Nicaragua and jump right in. Now at the end of it, if I would have just come to training camp and then came home, I would´ve come back with a changed heart more on fire for Jesus.  I realized expectations and things on my heart that I needed to let go of and give up to God. Our team got to bond and connect in a way that without camp, I...

Life so far…

I can´t believe I am finally here! Nicaragua is even more beautiful than I imagined. Once the bus picked us up from the boat, I started to get very nervous and questioning how I was going to handle all of this. Once we pulled up to Cicrin, all the kids were standing outside waiting to hug us. That´s when I realized everything was going to be OK and I was in the right the place. I feel so blessed to get to spend everyday with these kids who are so filled with joy and happiness. The view of Lake Nicaragua isn´t so bad either. We even washed our clothes in the lake yesterday...
