The Good Ole South

As a native California girl, I never thought I would say this, but I love the South. I have had some really good fried chicken and seen some adorable houses with porches and rocking chairs. Chivalry is very much alive and well here. Georgia also enjoys naming everything after peaches, making it difficult to differentiate between freeway exits.

Residing in Northeastern Georgia, training camp with the Adventures in Missions has definitely been an adventure thus far. We attend two spiritual sessions a day and participate in team bonding activities. Some of our team bonding activities have been painting God’s vision for our trip on a huge canvas, a dance off, and sleeping outside in a fort we made ourselves. I have learned many different skills in training, but one seems to stick out. It is a dance called the “Wobble.” This routine helps one let loose and doing it with the other 200 students was by far one of the “jiggy”est moments of my life (I felt like I was channeling Will Smith). I will show anyone who asks me when I come back in August.

Anyways, there are fourteen students on my specific team, reigning from Illinois, Florida, Washington, Missouri, Texas, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, New York, Minnesota, and Michigan. We already get along super well and have agreed to invest in some group speakers for numerous dance parties, Nicaragua style. To say the least, I am ecstatic.

My roommate, Hannah, and I have especially bonded over our late night pillow talks and showing off our dance moves to some "Call Me Maybe". I also have really enjoyed learning more about her native Texas culture where things like drinking sweet tea like its water are the norm.

God has really been challenging and teaching me a lot at training camp, and I feel like I am ready to go! Tomorrow we leave from Atlanta on our flight where we will touch down in Managua before heading to Ometepe. I can’t wait to wear my soft, linen capri pants!

Throughout all this, God has revealed that He has given me and my team His spirit of fearlessness as we get ready to embark on our journey. Please pray for safety and guidance as we travel and for unity as we kick off our adventure! As much as I have enjoyed Georgia, I can’t wait to land in Nicaragua! Vamanos!
