As the kids would say in America, “its opposite day!” (I just used that as my title to pull you in J)
When I first arrived in Atlanta I was a little confused as to why we had to spend four days there before moving on to Nicaragua. In my ignorant mind, all we needed was one day of debriefing and we’d be ready to set off and change the world! Boy, was I wrong or what.
These past four days have been a time of emotional and physical preparation for the trip, strong relationship bonding with my teammates, and rich worship experiences where the Holy Spirit has been continuously pouring into each and every college aged missionary that will be on their way to 1of 12 different countries this summer.
It is incredible to be surrounded by people who love Jesus all the time. Whether we are painting on a canvas, sleep outside in the freezing cold under the stars, or getting water spit on us by estranged leaders, my team is awesome. They are encouraging, joyful, and accepting. I am excited to work with my team in Nicaragua because I know that we all are going for one purpose: to serve the Lord. We are going to spread the Gospel and together are going to accomplish that goal. We have been singing a song in worship that says “we’re an army rising up…” Whenever we sing it I just imagine the classic scene in war movies…hundreds and hundreds making their way over a hill to fight… that’s exactly what we want to do! We want to be a force that is confident in the name of Jesus and is so passionate about the change he has made in our lives that we cant help but share it with those we meet.
Training camp has been a time where I have been equipped.
I came into this trip with expectations. The Lord has taught to abide by His expectations.
I like to follow a schedule. The Lord has taught me to live by His schedule.
When things don’t go my way, I get rattled. The Lord has taught me to let Him lead.
I am a self-conscious person. The Lord has reminded me the most important thing is that I am honoring and glorifying him with my words and actions, nothing else matters.
This mission trip hasn’t even started yet and God has been speaking to me louder than ever before and I am listening with open ears.
Our first stop is an orphanage on Ometepe Island in Nicaragua. Besides the fact that we will be provided cots or beds to sleep on, we know very little about what we will be doing there. As unsettling as it may sound, we are so excited! Our team is empowered and ready to see the kids’ sweet smiles. We are ready to share Jesus with a whole new culture and are praying that the Lord will speak through us and use us directly to share the Gospel.
Be praying friends! For health, safety, and for the Gospel to be heard and accepted by many!
