Wood is Heavy

We have arrived in Chinandega, Nicaragua but our journey didn’t start here.

Training camp wasn’t what I was expecting. At all. I happened to learn a few things like… I DO in fact have an accent (apparently I say “y’all” a lot), you need to bring a LEFT and a right shoe (I just brought two right ones), and that Wood is Heavy.

I’m assuming that you all know those things, and I’m also assuming that you know wood can get heavy. Not at first but if you keep carrying it for a while, it can.

We did this exercise where we wrote down our burdens, worries, expectations and anything else that has always held us back or weighed us down. After exploring our hearts and all of that good stuff we strapped those burdens down on a log and took a hike in the woods.

It was going good and I figured you know, just a little stroll around camp and we will be done. Nope. Up hill, down hill, over a few fallen trees and this wood, this BURDEN became heavier and heavier. Finally, we reached the end and threw our burdens in a pile.

Although a weight was lifted from me  (spiritually, mentally, and physically) I couldn’t help but think about Jesus. You know, that guy who Didn’t HAVE to come down from paradise to die and take on our sins, worries, and oh I don’t know BURDENS? Yeah he was pressed on my mind. Thinking about how HEAVY that cross must have been and how much he really felt all of our worries and sins. I don’t know about you, but that is one thing I don’t believe I could do. Be willing to leave paradise, carry the weight of the world, and die a horrible, embarrassing death.

But that’s something I DON’T have to do, because He did it for me, for us.

So carrying around burdens, being bitter, and holding on to the past you may be ashamed of, is pointless. Jesus already carried “the wood” (the weight) for you. And if I have to carry a million logs around Corner, Alabama to remember that, then I will. And if you ever need to join me, please do. Corner school road is big enough for the both of us. (Or is it? Hashtag small town probs)

Leaving you guys with this thought. If it’s already been done and it’s been taken care of FOR us, then why hold on it? Why let it drag you down day after day, after day? Get rid of it. Strap it to a log, take a walk and throw it in the burn pile.
