The smell of rice,beans,and plantains filled my nostrils my new Nike’s(which could probably buy these cooks better cooking equipment) are covered in dirt. On Ometepe Island flies are your friends the sooner you realize that the better off you’ll be. This is only my second full day here and its as if I’ve been here for a lifetime…. Enough with the poetry, is it hot here? All the time. Food? So much better than the american diet I’ve been locked into for years. Kids? They are amazing at sports. This is how we communicate..
Now that we have established that.. my ministry is working in the kitchen. It is me and a team member( who basically is the team translator). We handle the basic duties of washing,mopping, talking about our families and whatever else they need us to do. I washed
dishes all summer at a southern fast food chain named Zaxbys so working kitchen is routine. What is not routine is communicating in a language in which I failed horribly in highschool. The devil travels just like I did to Ometepe Island Nicaragua; a third world country isnt off limits. That being said my focus here at CICRIN isn’t learning Spanish or uploading tons of pictures and internally placing my self on a pedestal. My focus is to remember that just like I traveled, Satan traveled, and the holy spirit was flying business class. (Laugh here)
Spanish is a beautiful language when we make an effort to speak it we gain a new respect from the children and Nicaraguan people. I don’t care about speaking Spanish. Will I learn some? You bet, I’ve gotten better already. Will praying in Spanish bring somebody to Jesus? It could, you never know.
Jesus is seated on the throne and he left his holy spirit and a bag of goodies aka gifts of the spirit. So what does this all mean? We are to all be bilingual. I know sounds crazy but but we need to learn to listen and speak the holy spirit. There is no substitute for hard work. These people can read you like the morning but I plan on walking, cooking, and yes talking.
Prayer
Jesus thank you for helping us remember that where ever we are and what ever we do your spirit is burning inside us. We speak to the demonic strongholds that are over our families,schools, jobs, and communities and rebuke in the name of Jesus they have no place anymore. So father now that we know that you have given us a language to operate in 24/7 . Break down our insecurities and set us free of all the things that keep us from completly loving you. Now father help me to remember to take that holy spirit fire with me everyday to my kitchen ministry and help me to say out of love to those who give me opposition if they can’t take the heat stay out of the kitchen.
