how beautiful are the feet…

Our team needed a name for ourselves, and we had to pick it at training camp. It didn’t take long to come up with “beautiful feet” and the decision was unanimous. The verses Isaiah 52:7 and Romans 10:13-15 had come up a few times for several reasons and deliver such a true picture:

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns! –Isaiah 52:7

For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.” But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” –Romans 10:13-15

Our feet are dirty, filthy even, at the end of each day here in Nicaragua. But they are beautiful because they are His feet; we are His hands and feet. Our feet were created to walk with Him in a relationship of life and freedom. Our feet were created to dance with Him in this divine romance. Our feet were created to go and carry and spread His good news. Our teams’ feet will leave lasting footprints in the hearts and souls of whoever we meet. So, our team is “beautiful feet”.

And we decided that the Spanish translation of this name would be even more fitting. “Pies Hermosos”

PIES HERMOSOS

¡Qué hermosos son, sobre los montes, los pies del que trae buenas nuevas; del que proclama la paz, del que anuncia buenas noticias, del que proclama la salvación, del que dice a Sión: «Tu Dios reina»! –Isaías 52:7

Today in the village of Bethel, I met a little girl wearing ballet slippers. They are probably used, from America, after someone wore them out and didn’t want them anymore. But to this little girl they are pretty and pink and suit her for exactly what she needs out of them. It may be because I used to take ballet and wore shoes like this every week, but this little girl’s feet are precious. Although they are dirty, dry, and cracked, they are beautiful in the eyes of her Father. She is beautiful and perfect to Him. I hope and pray that her feet will dance with her Father for all of eternity. I love this picture and the little girl filling these shoes. And I don’t think I’ve ever loved the idea of feet as much as I do now.
