Generosity…

What does genoristy look like? I think the answer to that question is different for everyone. I´m trying to figure out what it looks like for me. Here in Nicaragua and also what it will look like when I come home. We were reading 2 Corinthians 8:8-15 a few nights ago and it tells us that by the grace of God, He was rich but that for us, He became poor. So that perhaps through His poverty, we may become rich. It is only because of God´s grace that we have the life we have and the blessings He has bestowed upon us. It is important to give, but more important to have the desire to give. We do what we can and not what we can´t. Instead of having rich people, middle class, and poor people, we should stive for equality. ¨…That your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need.¨ I struggle a little with this because I like giving things to people. Whether its a meal for a friend, a few dollars to the man on the side of Woodruff Road or just a small gift for someone, I like to give people things. I like to see my friends, family, and even strangers smile. This time in Nicaragua has shown me a little of what it looks like to be generous on the mission field. It means praying over people, showing them that food will feed them for a day but that Jesus Christ will feed you for a lifetime. It is making eye contact and attempting to speak spanish (which still isn´t working out so well for me!) It is loving on people. Showing them the love of Christ by spending time with them and being interested in their lives.

My dad instilled in me the importance of genoristy and giving to others but I am still not sure what that is supposed to look like for me in my life when I get home. We have been learning a lot about listening to God. Being still and quiet, listening for His voice to lead us on the right path. My prayer for this week as we move to the teen center, is that we listen for what God is calling us to do in the next 6 weeks. That we are patient and rejoice in the blessings He gives us everyday. I pray that  He teaches us how to be generous to others.

With Love,
Ashley
