Today we went out to the barrios and I´m pretty sure we found Neverland and the Lost Boys. We walked up and there was a group of them so we went over and asked if they wanted to play baseball. After a little confusion, the kids started pouring out of the wood work and pretty soon we were surrounded by them. Everyone was running around and screaming and laughing and just having a great time. The adults were all looking on smiling as we played baseball with a ratty tennis ball and our fists as bats. No one kept score and everyone got a turn at bat. We then played soccer and blew bubbles and drew with sidewalk chalk, and had turns trying on Zach´s and my sunglasses and taking pictures of each other.
These kids had the time of their lives and they didn´t have electronics, lots of toys, or even a bat. We talked on the way back about how simplistic their lives were but how content they all were. As a group, a lot of people have been talking about trying to simplify our lives, and how as Americans, we are all about here and now. I want ice cream now so I´m going to go get it. I want to watch a movie so I´m going to get it On Demand. Here we don´t have that many options and I can at least speak for myself, it´s been great.
