Ain’t No Rock Gonna Stand in My Way

Rockpile….Day 3

Sometimes ministry seems more than a little pointless.

Carrying rocks one by one (or even 2 or 3 at a time) down a hill is probably one of the least efficient ways to build a dam in a riverbed.  And is visiting strangers in their homes, playing soccer with random kids at the park, or braiding little girls’ hair at the orphanage really the most effective way to transform lives for Christ?

But our God is a God who operates outside of time.  He is the Alpha and Omega, Beginning and the End.  (Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come!)

Therefore, what often seems most efficient to us is not what is most effective in the kingdom of God.  As children of God, our actions are motivated by love.  And love rarely makes any sense at all.

“We are not philosophers, living on man’s explanations.  We are pilgrims, living on God’s promises, and His promises never fail.”  –Warren Wiersbe

When we worship, the eyes of our hearts are opened to God’s perspective.

“For we live by faith, not by sight.”  (2 Corinthians 5:7)

It is in the praise of the Almighty God that His power is released to rain down transformative grace in our circumstances.  Already weary at the sight of the rockpiles on the 2nd day, my heart cried out to God, and His response was a song: “God is Enough“.  God put a new song in my heart (Psalm 40:3).  And as I began to praise Him, He changed the attitude of my heart.  What at first appeared as a burdensome service project became an incredible time of praise, prayer, and purposeful conversations with my teammates as we encouraged one another, all while pumping some serious iron. :)

I chose to bear my rocks in a manner that brought glory to His Name.  As long as I’m alive I’m gonna glorify His Holy Name!

Praising God at the Pacific Coast!

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:26)

Praise:

  • Thank God for deepening relationships with the kids at the orphanage and at the older girls at the farm!
  • Praise God for the Presence of His Spirit through our skits and songs as we share God’s love in the high schools and neighborhoods of Leon and Managua!
  • Praise God for leading Veronica to Himself during one of the church services in the rough neighborhood surrounding the farm!

Pray:

  • Ask God for discernment in planning ministry for these next 3 weeks.
  • Ask God for continued energy, enthusiasm, and perseverance for the remainder of our stay at Casa Betesda!
