A Battle to Fight

We have now been at training camp for the past few days. Camp consists of team activities, worship services, lots of food, and times of communion with Jesus alongside our teammates. We would be naive to think that this isn’t a perfect time for the enemy to attack. We are on the eve of leaving, and there is still the possibility of turning back, what enemy wouldn’t desire this vulnerable moment?

The greatest lie ever told is that you are alone in your battle, and there is no one else who has experienced what you’re feeling. I myself fell into this with all the doubts about taking this leap and going on this crazy trip. Last night the leader on stage asked anyone who was doubting their decision and had feelings of inadequacy to raise their hand. I was thrown back at how 100% of the kids immediately raised their hands. Later that night I was finally able to open up about these doubts to my leader, and I can’t tell you how good it felt. Yes I still feel them, but no, I’m not the only one.

We should also rejoice that we are going through this spiritual warfare. No enemy attacks a foe who doesn’t pose a threat. What I interpret these doubts to be is that I pose a threat to satan’s kingdom. He sees Jesus in me and is scared of what I can do with it through Jesus’ love. It’s almost an honor to be in this intense battle. I’ve been reading the book, Wild at Heart, and a large part of it focuses on Christian men in this battle. We are not called to fight for Jesus, but to fight alongside Him, to join Him in battle. A great quote says, “the quality of a true warrior is that he is in service to a purpose greater than himself”.

Through this training camp I’ve seen that this trip isn’t going to be easy. We will be thrown into a third world country, and on top of that Satan will be straight gunning for us. But we aren’t alone in battle, and  we aren’t fighting for Jesus, we are fighting WITH Jesus. How comforting is that? Our cause is not insignificant, if it was satan wouldn’t even bother wasting time on us. One more day, it’s about to get intense.
