We finally made it to Nicaragua! Saturday was a long day of traveling, and was very tiring but we made it safe and sound! We had like a 2 1/2 or 3 hour drive from the airport to Chinandega, and we took this truck that we just sat in the back of the whole time! It was literally just the bed of a truck with benches on the side for us to sit on and then our bags were just on the floor in the middle. We were able to see the beautiful country of Nicaragua during this time! We went through the city, saw the big lake, the ocean, as well as the volcanoes and mountains. I could not have asked for a better way to get into and experience some of the country!
Since they really observe and take the Sabbath seriously, we didn’t do anything yesterday besides church at night. I never realized that other countries really observe the Sabbath and take a day of rest. In America we are so used to the go go go lifestyle where we always have to be doing something or trying to get something done. There is very rarely time that we just take to rest. I have always loved having time to rest, it just doesn’t happen very often.
In Exodus 31 God is telling Moses to tell the Israelites that they must observe the Sabbath. This passage talks about how the Sabbath has two purposes: to rest and to remember what God has done. It is so hard for us to find time for rest nowadays, but it is so crucial for us to do. Without rest we grow tired and weary and aren’t able to do things to the best of our ability. We also rarely take the time to really stop and think what God has done and what he is doing.
A friend has been encouraging me recently to look for God in the little things. He is everywhere and is always around, but how often do we take the time to recognize that and realize that he is in all things? It wasn’t until recently that I really started to recognize everything then he is in. It makes days so much easier when you are continually recognizing everything that God is in. It is so easy to lose sight of, especially in the dry seasons of life, but it is something that’s so important to do and is that continual reminder of how good God is.
Taking this day to rest has reminded me of all these things. It has been a day where I have been able to recharge and rest in God and who he is. Even though it will probably be tough to rest sometimes, I will be looking forward to have the opportunity to have a day of rest every Sunday for the next 3 months.
Today we had a meeting to talk about the ministry and everything we will be doing, so I was excited to find that out and see some things we will be doing. Later today we are going to a village to interact with some of the people there, so I’m excited for that! I love you all and will talk to y’all soon!
Until next time,
Kate
