We are all so happy to be in Nicaragua and working with Cicrin! I am just going to share a quick story now, and will hopefully be able to share more general things later 🙂
On Thursday, after several hours of working in the garden with Robert (a staff member), Kelsey, Anna, and I decided we desperately needed a shower (we were pretty nasty!). Since there were gnats all over the shower (praise God for taking away the plague of gnats since then!!), we decided to go in the lake instead. So we brought our shower stuff with us and walked out to the clothes-washing station with 2 of the cook´s daughters accompaning us. The lake is so warm!
We were in the middle of dunking our heads in water when one of the girls pointed to something in the water about 15-20 ft away from us, with her mouth open. We all looked at each other and panicked, and asked, "uhh…us un tiburon?" Since we had heard of the infamous Lake Nicaraguan bull sharks. But to our relief she said in Spanish, "no, there aren´t sharks here. Its only a turtle!" Whew! Keeping a suspicious eye on the mysterious turtle, we continued with our bath and goofing around in the water.
10 minutes later, Robert started coming toward us and sat on the washing station with the other 2 girls. The oldest pointed towards the "turtle" to show him, and after looking at it for several seconds, he turned around and said, "uhh guys?? That´s an alligator."
Our mouths dropped and we high-tailed it out of the water as quickly as we could, with body wash still clinging to us. Here we were scared about sharks and had no idea that there were alligators in the lake! Robert stayed out in the water and watched while we all giggled and watched from the shore, telling everyone that we just almost got eaten by an alligator.
But (you can rest easy, mom!), a couple minutes later it turned out that Robert concluded that it was actually just a turtle, afterall. I think we were all a little bummed secretly, because that would have made quite the story!
And then, to make this story even more anti-climatic, later on we found out that it was actually just a rock and we had freaked out over nothing. oops! Kinda embarassing, but we thought we would share the story with you all anyway.
Thank you so much for your prayers and support. It is SO appreciated, and the Lord has been SO GOOD to us!! 🙂
