Wrong Expectations

After two very short hours of sleep, I woke up at three AM to a snowstorm in my home town of Grand Rapids, Michigan. I grabbed my ONE suitcase and carry on  bag and got into the car. After driving three hours on a snowcovered highway, dodging semis and salt trucks and never exceeding the 60 mph mark on the speedometer, we arrived at the Detroit airport. (An adventure I’m not so sure was worth the hundred dollars I saved flying from Detroit instead of Grand Rapids!)

I shed some tears and said goodbye to my parents. “See you in four months!” I walked through security and stepped foot onto the plane; this was the beginning of an adventure of a lifetime and there was no turning back now!
In Atlanta, after about what felt like a mile walk to baggage claim I met my team. We talked for a bit, but after taking about thirty pictures in the aiport and laughing A LOT with a group of almost complete strangers, it became very evident that God had placed me on the perfect team for this four month adventure.

Although training camp has not quite been what I expected (imagine that!), it seems to be better because of these nine girls. It has stretched me, challenged me, equipped me, and strengthened me. God has already spoken to me in different ways and showed me that this is where I am supposed to be at this time in my life. If we already have stories and lasting memories from these four short days at training camp, I cant imagine what the next four months is going to be like with my team: Nicaragua. “The Sisterhood of Awesomeness”
