Free the Fathers

6/24/11
Today in Nicaragua, it’s Father’s Day.  Because of this, I’ve been thinking a lot about what we’ve learned about the barrios in the last couple of weeks.
When we got here, we knew there was darkness, but this is not what I expected.

You see,
The girls here are mistreated.  From when they are very young, they are passed around the men in their family.
The fathers,
The uncles,
The brothers,
The cousins,

As some sort of initiation.

So when they are older and meet the first guy they are interested in,
They only know how to show affection in one way.
These girls are so oppressed.
So used.
So abused.
So trapped.
In chains.
THEY NEED FREEDOM.

And God said,
“What about the men?”
“What about the fathers?”
I want them punished.
“What about their freedom?”
“What about their chains?”
But it’s their fault.
“So you’re blameless?”
But I’m not that bad.
“Hmm . . .”
So I am called to free the fathers.

We came here with the word of God that we would give these people FREEDOM
But I had no idea it would
Look
Like
This.

We are here to release these Nicaraguans from being
Pregnant at 14.
Kids having kids.
Withheld by poverty.
In chains.

We are here to release these girls and women from being
Oppressed.
Used.
Abused.
Treated as worthless.

AND we are here to release these fathers from being
Opressors.
Abusers.
Trapped.
In chains.
Opressed.

NICARAGUA- YOUR FREEDOM IS ON ITS WAY.

Jesus- “I have done these things and even greater things than these you will do.” (Matt 14)
Dang.
