Safe Haven

I never realized I resided in such a special place. I saw many places on my journey here, but none were as secure as this. The place for which I reside is bordered with high walls, one entry gate, and guards on duty. A guard, or two, (or three) stand outside these walls to enforce protection for my comfort and safety. As I was preparing to live in a cardboard box or under the open night sky, He had already chosen a place for me with more protection than most of the people that actually live here! How is this fair to be in such paradise when outside the walls some sleep with trash, others dig through that same trash in attempt to have something to eat that day?

I am referring to my residence here in both Chinandega, Nicaragua, and Abba, Father. My team and I are so abundantly blessed to be staying in such a beautiful place. From the flight, looking down onto hundreds of tin roofs and the luscious mountains, to our 3-hour ride in the back of a pick-up truck to our safe haven, we’ve been so speechless.

You see, just like the guards who stand outside the gates, The Lord also desires that His children feel and KNOW that we are safe in Him. He tells us that we are worthy of the Safe Haven that He provides. We are made worthy just as the scriptures tell us in Romans 8. “For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” Romans 8:15-18 NIV).

Because we are children of The True Safe Haven, we can step out of our 4-walled “safe haven’s” into the streets of those who long to enter into it. We can step out because we have The True Safe Haven in us and with us wherever we may go.

I challenge you to dig deeper into The True Safe Haven that God is for YOU! In doing so, you may begin to realize that you’re safer than you thought. Safer to step outside your earthly man-made safe haven to wherever He may lead. 🙂
