Monday and Tuesday Lindsey, Naomi, and myself had the amazing opportunity to spend the day and night in Bethel with our dear friend Conny! She works at the doctor’s office on the property where we live, and the more and more we have gotten to know her the more we have fallen in love with her. She is a woman full of so much life and joy. She has a gift of making you feel like the most special person in the world. She always hits her heart and says mi corazon , which means my heart, anytime she talks to you. We are all considered to be a part of her “mafia”, because you protect and look after your mafia, and that’s what she does for us. She is like our mom here, which is nice to have here since my mom is so far away.
Monday afternoon, the three of us gringos, which is what they call white people here, and Darwin, who is Conny’s sixteen year old son and who is like a brother to us, went into the town of Chichigalpa to get groceries for her to cook us dinner. The adventure started by the four of us squeezing into a motor taxi, which is the popular way to get around here. We got to town and we were so hungry so we were hoping to get some yummy enchiladas from street venders, but there were not any at all. So instead we went to a pizza parlor. Funny thing about pizza places here, they always have a bottle of ketchup on the tables because Nicaraguans love to add ketchup to pizza, still is so funny to me. After we got pizza we went to an internet café because Darwin needed to print something off, and we ran into our friends Josue and Freddie from Bethel! So we spent some time with them. Got ice cream and just hung out. It was random running into them, but made the day so fun! When we finally got back to Connys we all pitched in and helped her cook dinner. It was such a neat opportunity getting to cook with her. Her dinner was so delicious, one of the best meals I think I have ever had! After dinner, we went over to our friend Yahirah’s (YiYi) house, where Shawndell was staying, and had a time of worship and prayer for the rest of our team that was in Grenada doing hostel ministry. It was so spirit lead, and just a beautiful time worshipping and praising our King together! We finished off the night by talking to Conny and hearing more of her heart. She is such a beautiful and inspirational woman, and I am so glad I had the opportunity to stay with her because I learned so much more about her and her love for Christ!
I woke up the next morning and remembered; oh hey I am in Bethel. It was such an amazing feeling just to wake up and be in the village that I love so much and consider home! We spent the rest of that day spending time with all the people we love in Bethel! I am so thankful for that beautiful village, and that God has given me the opportunity to be His light and share His love with His amazing and beautiful people! Cannot believe that in less than two weeks I am going to have to say goodbye to so many people who will always have such a special place in my heart! All my prayer warriors out there please be in prayer for my team and I as we finish out these last two weeks. It is going to be very emotional and hard to say goodbye to all the friends we have here, but we know that God is going to work in and through us in a huge way as we continue to tell Him that we are willing and able to be used by you, even in our last weeks here!
